Muir Woods has a rich and varied history, from its use by the Coast Miwok people, to its early days of tourism and the Mount Tamalpais Mill Valley Scenic Railway, to an era of conservation, to modern preservation. In each era, the forest has been affected by the actions of humans, for better or for worse. Part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, this coastal redwood preserve features majestic redwoods and scenic hiking trails that draw more than 1.5 million visitors each year.

these trees are spectacular and the walk through the forest is wonderful. Allow at least an hour to do the circular loop track. Even in winter this is popular and can be quite busy. The road in is very windy - if you get travel sick sit near the front of your tour bus.

I love coming here every time we are in the area. It's great for families, couples...anyone. Plan on being here for hours to take advantage of the place and enjoy the sights. We were there during valentines week and it was a little cool, but still nice. There isn't a lot of parking, but we still found a spot. Will... More

Not far from the city lies this gem.... towering redwoods, peaceful walks, mossy ground cover and running water. You can not beat this for a nice day out. You can hike a variety of trails based on your skill level. Basic trails through the redwoods are paved /boardwalk.

* This park is an amazing getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. * The trail is well marked with different length hikes so everyone can choose accordingly. * If we're ever back in the area, I'd do this again. Next time I'd bring a backpack with a picnic lunch, since the cafe is NOT GF friendly!(disappointing) *We... More

The Muir Woods are so convenient to a visitor to San Francisco. And they are w marvelous site to behold. The park is clean and well maintained and the trees are something to behold. Not as big as sequoia national forest, but spectacular in their own right. Easy to walk , even for older folks and places to rest, take... More

The trees are beautiful and it was great to walk in nature for awhile while in this area. lots of walking although some of the trails are wheelchair or walker friendly. We only had an hour and would have like to spend all day there. Popular with the tourists, parking is terrible and they now have a shuttle service that... More

Lots of trees some big but not the Redwood size. Driving past we looked down to the park and it looked like cloud of rolling tree tops. It soothed me made me take a deep breath.

Only 40 mins drive from SF via the golden gate, this park is a good escape from the city in the heart of a magnificent redwood forest. If you think to find the giant sequoias of the Yosemite or Sequoia Parks, better you go there because you might be disappointed here, but those parks are quite far away from SF... More

We came to Muir Woods National Monument with a few Friends. If you only want to visit the Muir Woods trees, income (at $10) is quiet expensive for what it's worth, in my opinion (but parking is free!). But we included a great hike along the canopy view/Redwood/Sun/Dipsea Trail and that made it really worth it. However, you could enter... More

Visited here last week, it was so pretty, majestic trees. Loved every minute. There had been a lot of rain and the water was flowing everywhere, great experience!
