Muir Woods has a rich and varied history, from its use by the Coast Miwok people, to its early days of tourism and the Mount Tamalpais Mill Valley Scenic Railway, to an era of conservation, to modern preservation. In each era, the forest has been affected by the actions of humans, for better or for worse. Part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, this coastal redwood preserve features majestic redwoods and scenic hiking trails that draw more than 1.5 million visitors each year.

I have been to Muir Woods a few times and this place always blows me away. Simply breath taking and a very spiritual place to visit. We went later in the afternoon where there were not as many people so we enjoyed a quiet hike...More

Parking reservations required. Cost is $8. Totally worth it. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! We spent approximately two hours here and could have spent two more! Walk along boardwalk type paths amongst amazing redwoods. Very peaceful. Restrooms available. Fee to get in. Totally worth it!

It is hard to accurately describe a gem of nature. We are talking about trees, for goodness sake! But they are breathtaking and wondrous. A tip: take the bus! It parks right at the entrance and the carpark looked dreadful! A great 90 minute walk.

Nice place to see the redwoods and enjoy a hike. Great place to take anyone who has not been to the San Francisco Bay area.

I know Muir Woods is hard to get to these days with the implementation of the reservation system, but from what we were told, they had to because it was getting way out of hand. We did a tour bus from Sausalito to get there....More

This forest is amazing and well worth a trip out. But don’t bother with the organised trips. Get the ferry to Sausalito from the ferry buildings that’s $25 return and then get the $3 return shuttle from Sausalito. The stopping point is close to the...More

We had been to Sequoia, Kings Canyon, and Yosemite prior to stopping here so that could account for the 4 stars instead of 5. We liked it very much and hiked here for an hour but that was enough for us. Easy hiking with well...More

A lovely national treasure and a great place to hike and enjoy the trees. The problem is with the new shuttle buses taking you to the park. Parking passes sell out and you have to take a very late disorganized shuttle. Our 2:30 shuttle left...More

We spent a morning in Muir Woods before driving on to Napa. Its an easy 30 minute drive from San Francisco, but requires advance registration for parking and access. I strongly suggest reviewing the Muir Woods website to ensure where, how and when to access...More

Came here with family. If you want to drive your car in, you need to reserve a parking spot on the Muir Woods website. I paid 3 months in advance. The drive in is beautiful but a bit of a nail biter on a narrow...More

Most of the main trail pretty flat and nicely paved so you should be ok. There is some incline getting into the park though so if you can do a wheelchair, that may be a better option.

Yes, you can but you have to reserve return ride also ahead of time because internet is spotty at best.

Since the beginning of the year, it is required to pre-pay for parking online. This is good as it reserves you a spot. I believe it was around $10.
