Old Mill Park - Easy Access to Redwood Trees
May 2021
One of the goals of our recent road trip was to see redwood trees. There was not enough time in our schedule to go to the more notable places to see them, so we were seeking alternatives. We walked 3 miles (round trip) in Yosemite to see a couple of clusters of redwood trees in Merced Grove. Literally, there was a cluster of about 7 trees and walking a little farther, there was a clump of 2 trees.
We intended to go to Muir Woods until the hotel clerk told me that you had to have reservations to go to Muir Woods... no time for that. And then I read that Mill Valley had redwood trees in Old Mill Park that were easily accessible so we decided to go see.
We were rewarded with a beautiful park that we enjoyed walking through that was FILLED with redwood trees. The area was shaded by the canopy of the redwoods. We were somewhat envious that almost every house in the neighborhood had their houses built within the redwood forest.
Literally, we parked our car on the street, crossed the sidewalk and entered the park surrounded by these towering giants. Could not have been an easier way to enjoy these beautiful trees. Were they as tall as the ones in Sequoia National Park and other places more known for the trees? I don't really know. But they were easy to get to and we were practically alone in the park.
...and in case it needs to be mentioned, there is no charge to enter this city park. This is a family park with a playground. The old mill remains are preserved there and the creek/river runs by it. And the day we were there, there was a man sitting by the creek playing his guitar. He was good. We enjoyed it.

Great playground and natural setting for kids to play. There is water, massive tree trunks, plus everything you need to exhaust your little ones.

Beautiful Redwoods
Sep 2019
I came here by bike from San Francisco, made a quick stop then continued to Tiburon to take the ferry back. So, I didn't have time to explore but the redwood trees were amazing. I could be wrong, but it seemed like the park wasn't too big anyway. Still would definitely recommend visiting.

Wonderful Urban Park

Great park in downtown Mill Valley, it is sheltered by towering redwoods, with an all season creek flowing through the calming shadows. Off street parking only. There is a playground for kids along with a permanent restroom. Downtown restaurants are two blocks away.

In the charming town of Mill Valley this park is a gem of place to walk around from any side . The tall trees of redwood tower above and the brook flows beautifully . The park has benches at various place which will put you in meditative state with sun dappled trees around you . Close to the main areas of eateries it has a great play are for the kids with families - having swings and slides . No entree fee here . Lovely place to be .

Delightful spot

This park featuring a stand of redwoods is definitely worth adding to a cycle ride over the Golden Gate Bridge around to Tiburon.

The town is quaint and comparatively peaceful after the bustle of the city. The signage to it could be a bit clearer but it's not hard to find your way from the cycle path and back again.

If you're in the area don't miss it.

Lovely place for a visit

We rode here as part of our tour over the Golden Gate bridge and loved this quaint town and gorgeous forest! It kind of takes away to somewhere special. It's also fun trying to spot the houses in amongst all the trees :) Definitely worth a visit or a good thing to add to your bike tour like we did.

It's My Home

It is home for me, as it was for my father when his family arrived in Mill Valley before 1900. There are so many changes when you lived in one place all your life. One thing that hasn't, Old Mill Park.

Perfect for a daytime, week-day visit. Skip Muir Woods...you've got Redwoods here
Jun 2018 • Solo
I love this park... the redwood trees are so magnificent... craddling you in their magestic powerful energy flow, with streams of sunlight between the branches casting to the ground. There is a stream, a bridge, playground equipment for kids, a historic remnant of the cable car that used to travel up Mt. Tam, an outdoor theater, and a walkway into a library, sandboxes, areas of busy-ness, and areas of quiet. It's quite a haven for rest & rejuvenation and a nice walk-thru. But if you want to be sure that you can enjoy it, parking is most likely available during the week. I would hesitate to visit on a week-end. If you have out of town guests... this is a solution to the parking disaster at Muir Woods....
