We visited here while in Mindo. It far exceeded our expectations. The butterfly pavillion was simply spectacular with so many butterflies it felt magical. Our guide talked to us about the life cycle of a butterfly. We then entered the pavillion and wow! They have an area to see all the different chrysalis with a few butterflies 'hatching'. There are also numerous ponds with koi, a nature trail with a couple bamboo towers you can climb up and a gift shop and restaurant. This was the highlight of the area for me! Don't miss it!

This was a nice, tranquil butterfly garden. Great place to relax, enjoy the beauty, and take pictures.
There is a short guided tour in the beginning. The tour basically covered the pupa stage of butterfly development. It was cool how they put a pupa in each of our hands, and some of them starting thrashing about. Both thrilling and creepy!
The tour abruptly ended, and it was not clear if the tour would continue inside the protected butterfly area. It did not. Perhaps they can make the more clear during the pupa part of the tour.
They have quite the gift shop area as well.

I wasn't expecting a lot here, although $7.50 entry is quite expensive for Ecuador. But it was well worth the cost. A short 5 minute explanation of the development from egg to butterfly and you are left to explore in your own time. You first enter the large covered are, both netting , obviously to retain butterflies, and a rain-proof dome, necessary for the long rainy season. And we were there on a wet day.
The number, varieties, sizes and colours of butterflies are amazing. They are seemingly everywhere, quite magical. There is a board, about 2metres x 1 metre of pupas developing, we actually saw 3 hatch out and start to open their wings in a short time. Then outside to a similar sized area but higher netting with no rain-proof cover. Wonderful plants, a waterfall, less volume of butterflies but very nice. From here via secure netted doors to prevent escape you can access several towers for views over the site and the forest.

This is just a magical spot. I had never seen so many butterflies of different sizes and colors in one place before. Get there first thing in the morning to see the butterflies emerge from their cocoons - it is a really remarkable thing to watch!

The butterflies and orchid are beyond beautiful. Wide range in sizes and colours of butterflies, I could have spent a day sitting there watching them.
You can rub some fruit on your finger and feed the butterflies from your hand. They're also attracted to bright colours, so if you wear flashy clothing, don't be surprised if you have friends land on you.
There are many chrysalis pods in varying stages of hatching, a fish pond, caterpillars and eggs all over the plants..
Truly a beautiful and peaceful space.

We had been to a butterfly garden in Laos and enjoyed it albeit for too brief a time, but this was really quite amazing the number of butterflies that were flitting about the place. You really do have to watch your feet here!
There is also a humming bird area at the rear which we enjoyed for quite some time although it’s not a patch on the one in town near the orchid garden. That said, the main draw are the butterflies. We were probably there for well over an hour.

A very cute, nicely done butterfly pavilion. Our guide, Michael, was the star. He was so kind and so good at his job - he gave us our intro, explained the stages of butterfly lifecycle, and helped us with a table in the restaurant. He made the experience very smooth! The restaurant is incredible, some of the best food we’ve had in Ecuador. Very vegetarian friendly.

Unfortunately the owners didn’t think to do maintenance work outside of operating hours. Totally ruined our experience....hard to appreciate the tranquility of butterflies with a saw running for the entire time in the background. The workers could see we were displeased so took a 5 minute break, but then started up again. We expressed our discontent to the woman at the desk before leaving, she just shrugged and said sorry - they had to clean up a tree that had fallen. When I suggested it be done when they were closed, she said they were never closed. Think that should be reconsidered.... anyway, if you hear a chainsaw, turn away...they won’t shut it off for you.

A big disappointment than one year ago. It's gone downhill...kids running around shaking the plants, dead butterflies floating in the pool and only about 3 kinds of butterflies...like they were mass produced. If you want a better experience try Nathaly's.

Wonderful opportunity to learn about the complex lifecycle of butterflies and experience these creatures “up close and personal” as they fly around by the hundreds (thousands?) and often land on you. Staff is pleasant and offers good explanations about butterfly needs and behaviors. We left with a strange feeling of rapture after being surrounded by an extraordinary number of ravishingly beautiful species.
This is a terrific place to bring children, who seem equally entranced by the gorgeous koi in an attractive pond. Only downside is mediocre display cases, offering few explanations of what they seek to show.
