There are some birds that you are never going to find on your own and Antpitta's definitely are mysterious, beautiful birds that fit that category. We saw five different species of Antpitta's as well as many other birds. I would try and spend an entire day, if you are into birding.

I arranged a morning visit with my own guide. the guides from Paz are engaged in making sure visitors are in the right place to see some lovely birds. it's a beautiful valley. you'll be with numerous folks with different guides but everyone was respectful. the Paz guides enticed some antpittas with yummy bits and there were some other guides... Amazing biodiversity of birds. They do great work there reforesting the area to maintain all the beautiful birds, plant, and insect diversity of Ecuador.

My friend Marie arrived UIO with no expectations for her two-week visit. She planned to help me settle into a new apartment in Mindo and also view the earthquake-ravaged area where I lived for 8 years on the Pacific coast - (Jama.) Knowing that our dance cards would be full for that two-week period, I made 'Welcome Back' arrangements for... More

We were so lucky to be recommended to go visit Angel Paz's bird sanctuary 30 minutes from Mindo. We wanted to see the beautiful cock-of-the-rock, the "Gallo de la peña"!! Angel Paz has created an oasis for these amazing birds to put on a show as you walk into his world. To watch several males do their early morning courtship... More

Angel Paz and his family have a wonderful place here for birding. It was easy to see Cock of the Rock and several Antpittas, Parrots & Hummingbirds!

Relax, grab a coffee and watch some of the best scenery in town. Beautiful bird watching. We saw tons of birds and loved the scenery. I'm not really a big fan of birds but this was spectacular.

We stayed here for two nights in July 2016. We had the option of day-tripping from Mindo but are really glad we had two full days staying here. The accommodation and food were really excellent (and very good value for an ecolodge in Ecuador), the birding was fantastic (we visited the lekking Cock-of-the-Rocks three times, saw all the antpittas really... I was there on a birding tour (with an excellent guide, Javier Arias) and it was an amazing experience, Angel Paz helped us find great species (like the Giant Antpitta or the Rufous-breasted Antthrush). The breakfast after the tour was delicious.
