Although there was a big group, everyone was quiet and respectful and we all got to see crazy performing Cock-of the Rocks. We took the full morning tour, so we then walked trails and watched Angel call in rare and secretive Antpittas. The tour ended...More

We arrived to Paz de las Aves to a warm welcome from the Paz family. From the first moment we knew that one night at the refugio was going to be too short a time. We had booked the two day, one night, package; which...More

My husband and I stayed one night at Refugio Paz de las Aves with a tour, which included dinner and breakfast, and had an amazing time! We were guided by Venicio (Angel Paz' son) on the first night to one spot where the Cock-of-the-Rock males...More

Paz de las Aves Bird Refuge gives bird watchers an opportunity to see several species of birds that are quite rare and elusive. I was fortunate and was able to see 5 species of antpitta plus several other uncommon birds.

The cock of the rock lek is a unique first row seat to view nature in action. The male birds' show is vibrant and fun to watch. I'm not an avid bird-watcher, but the display was well worth the trip.

We are not birders and this tour required a 5 AM departure, but I am SO GLAD we did it! We departed our resort in clouds and rain, but the sun was dawning on a beautiful morning by the time we arrived at la Paz...More

We loved our tour of this place, saw over 20 species of birds, lots of toucans, antpittas, cocks of the rock, hummingbirds and tanagers. The family is just lovely and they provide great information, breakfast and coffee really nice, and the walk not strenuous. Next...More

We left the hotel at 5am to go there in time to see the Cock-of-the-rock lek. What great and unique looking birds! Angel Paz and his brother greeted us and also took us into the forest to see the Antpittas. These guys have a good...More

We were there for half an hour and we saw many hummingbirds. But apart from those, no other birds came to drink water/eat the bananas. I guess we had bad luck.

We took a taxi from Mindo to join up with Angel for a tour including the Cock of the Rock, ant pittas, hummingbirds and more and it was well worth the effort (and the early start). The bird watching is great and we spotted several...More

Just as Doug mentioned these birds are present and active early in the morning only. If you go at some other time you may see other interesting birds but probably not the cock-of-the-rocks. I suggest using the service of a... More

Hi! The only real show you'd miss is the Cock-of-the-Rock display at dawn. Otherwise, the rest of the birds are around all day. If you had one of the local guides, they could help you find lots of wonderful birds, including... More
