Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This walk is hard and requires a lot of fitness! The conditions are variable so you need to prepare for all conditions. You will need decent boots, jacket, gloves, beanie, neck warmer, poles a great addition.
You are tramping in an alpine area so be prepared. It can turn very narley quickly. But it is a great walk . About 25 kms so it is quite an undertaking but worth it.

Travelling through the National Park our coach party stopped to survey the scenes. However, as I described in my title, it was all too vast to get close up to anything. We saw each of the three famous mountains : Tongariro; Ngauruhoe; Ruapehu. Each a spectacle in it's own right. Then our driver told us to move on........................

Rude staff. Travelling with small group of senior college students. Treated them like criminals from the get go. Yelled at them to get out of shop area. No obvious signage telling them to be accompanied by a teacher in their area. Also there is a nice way of saying things rather than yelling at the kids for the whole centre to hear. Don’t recommend this place for school groups. Not the first time staff have been rude and unwelcoming toward students.

I went in looking for a couple of short hikes I could do while there. The nice young man helped me identify a couple. He told me that one was in a scene in Lord of the Rings. He gave good details about how to get there, too.

Best hike I ever did.
One advice: once you are at Emeral Lakes go back. The rest is only pain and nothing to see except 11kms to walk.
Of you go back on your foots you can park tour car and avoid the transfer by bus

We had visited here years ago & it is really worth a stop. So much information on the mountains, volcano & treks and Tongariro crossing. There is also a display of ski apparel through the decades. I really enjoyed that. Friendly staff.

A must visit place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience in the national park. The displays about Maori culture and the environment surrounding are crucial. Staff are generous with their time answering questions.

We popped into the visitor centre to check out what walks were close by.
The lady who helped us was fantastic and her local knowledge was extremely helpful for when we return to complete the Tongariro Crossing.
We could have stayed for hours as it is so interesting in there.

We went into to see them in regards booking a shuttle to the ski area. Although good information with the displays in the centre what was dissapointing was to find out we had to go back 16 kms to National Park Village to catch a Shuttle. Would be nice to have better information.

It is an informative place for everyone. The staffs would ask what we are looking for at once. They know the area very well and can give answers to all questions we raised.
Other than displays, there is video, interactive activities and so. It is worth to stop there before going up the mountain.
