Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The McCune Mansion is a classical and rather beautiful big red stone house on a prominent corner location on Capitol Hill in Salt Lake City. You can run into it when you are walking from the Temple Square to the Capitol. It looks particularly gorgeous in the setting sun. According to the sign on site, it was built in 1901 by the railroad and mining tycoon Alfred McCune and later in 1920 donated to the Church of Latter Day Saints. Now it is an event centre available to use for events. Not generally open to the public.

Way back in the early 70s I attended BYU Salt Lake and it was held in the McCune Mansion. What a treat. Classes were held in everything from the study with real leather on the walls to the library, dining room, grand ballroom and even in one of the bedrooms. The woodwork is truly exquisite. I have returned a few times since then for a party or wedding and it hasn't changed. Well worth a visit if you can get a tour. Brings back sooo many memories. I said I visited this year in April as they had not other options when it has been a few years.

This is simply a stunning mansion! It's set up on a hill from Temple Square but it is a short work, though steep.

Very easy to book a spot online - 2nd Tuesday of the month on the hour. Magnificent home / architecture. I understand that the guides are volunteers but I wish she had done her research - she read from a stack of papers and struggled to remember facts about the McCunes (which I easily found w Google) and she spent too much time telling us about her own relatives. We also had some chatty members in our tour group which really slowed us down - I realize it’s probably tough to keep a group moving but a guide should be able to walk and talk and “know” the home she’s showing. She let the long-winded tourists go on and on with their personal stories while she shuffled through her “script” - sadly I had to break away and didn’t get to complete the tour since I only had an hour to take the tour. I would’ve loved to have been able to simply explore the beautiful space on my own. I’m sure with a different guide / different group my experience would have been excellent. A beautiful home and worth a visit.

Hard to believe this mansion was set to be demolished! Our group of 30 enjoyed a private tour of this amazing mansion. The history is incredible. It is only open to private tours, business events, weddings. It has been lovingly restored to its original grandeur. There are many stairs but an elevator is available for those needing it. Every room is amazing with treasures from around the world. The details cannot be described nor can they be captured in a photo.
