The mansion Is located at 6:03 E. South Temple St. and is stunning from the outside. It even gets better when you get to go on a tour and see the inside.
The Kearns mansion is available for public touring in June, July, August, in December from 2 to 4 PM. The tour is free and is full of amazing architecture, art, furnishings and such an amazing history. We especially like the part describing how the Utah Gov. Hosted Pres. Theodore Roosevelt for a week while they hunted and stayed at the house.
You are able to tour the first floor only which has amazing dining room, kitchen, parlor, office and so much more. The governor and his family live up on the second and third floors, and they're kind enough to allow the public to tour during these few months and times.
The state police are outside for security and there is no photography whatsoever inside, nor can you bring any backpack into the house. This is a treasure in Salt Lake City and a must for everyone to come see.

My wife and I walked around this old mansion during a recent trip to SLC. Located on South Temple between “G” & “H” Streets, the mansion was built as a residence for early mining executive Thomas Kearns and is now the official residence of Utah’s Governor. The Governor’s Mansion is open for public tours (Free Admission).

Built in 1902 by the prominent mining magnate, U.S. Senator Thomas Kearns, this elegant and opulent home was often a political debating center where the Senator conducted official business. Using the finest craftsmen and materials available, the residence was comparable in quality and style to eastern mansions like those of the Vanderbilts and Carnegies.
The Kearns mansion also served as a grand and elaborate place of entertainment where guests would dance to the music of live orchestras. President Theodore Roosevelt, a personal friend of Senator Kearns, dined there in 1903, as did many political and religious dignitaries throughout the period.

Loved this mansion. Excellent guide. Very interesting history and beautiful house. Well worth the time. Check dates and times before you go though. A little off the beaten path so you want to plan well.

Beautiful building but nothing to see except to drive buy it. If you are there, you could walk down to the Historical Presbyterian Church on the same side of the road.

We stopped to take some photos of the Governor Mansion Its a beautiful mansion. Thomas and Jennie Kearns built the home in the 1800s. One can tour the mansion during the summer months and in December. For more information on this and times/etc. we have found its best to look at the web site for latest information on this.

The woodwork and architecture in this building is exceptional. If you are able to get a tour, take the opportunity. Very few contractors take the care that was done in this house. You can feel the history of the mansion as you move from room to room. I think I may run for Governor, just so I can live here for a few years....8 years if I get re-elected. ;).

I've been on a tour of the Governor's mansion twice and it's just beautiful! 15-20 years ago the Christmas tree caught on fire and did some damage to the interior but they went to great lengths to fix it up and restored it to it's original glory.
At the bottom of the stairs is an incredible light from France. The dining room is paneled with Cherry wood, It's gorgeous! That was my favorite room but the whole place is really lovely and they have some very nice antique furniture as well.

I have lived in Salt Lake City for many years. Finally I took time to take the tour. I am glad that I did today. I am glad they renovated the building after the fire.

It is a pity that we were not able to tour inside this house because from the street it certainly looks impressive. we're guessing that anyone with a Utah state "contact" might well be able to arrange a visit outside of June - August.
