Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The gardens are very small, wedged between residences....and the sculptures were, well, bizarre. The inscriptions were inscrutable as well. not sure what the point of the statuary is, or why Gilgal attracts the attention it does, but 15 mins of my time was all I thought it deserved. Hard to locate this tiny city park, and not worth the effort.

What the heck?? Such a strange but cute little garden right in the middle of the city. It seriously is hidden on a street right next to houses and it almost feels like you are walking into someone's backyard. The garden is small but nice. The sculptures are interesting and there is an actual well maintained garden. Although it's nice there really isn't much to see so it's only really going to be a short visit.

Something different, quite interesting, and uniquely Salt Lake City. The closest comparison I can think of are the Tiger Balm Gardens in Hong Kong. The garden is a tranquil spot in what is otherwise a busy residential area. Some of the inscribed texts are starting to wear and a bit of money to rescue them would be a good investment.
Well worth a 30 minute visit.

If you are looking to find something mysterious in Salt Lake City, then visit Gilgal Gardens. It is amazing!!! Definately the best kept secret in Salt Lake, most of the locals have never even heard of it. I found it by accident one day, and have shared it with many since. ENJOY!

While waiting for my flight to Phoenix after a weekend of skiing in Park City, Utah, I had several hours to kill so I went to Trolley Square for lunch and shopping. Wandering around the neighborhood, I came upon a very unique sculpture garden open to the public for free. Each sculpture was created by a local man and represents an important message of faith or passage from scripture in which the man ardently believed. It is part art, part mystery and part philosophy/theology. But what I liked most was the passion and determination that one man had and the vision and drive to create it himself. “If you want to be brought down to earth in your thinking and studying, try to make your thoughts express themselves with your hands,” Child wrote. I was the only visitor at this "Secret Garden."

Yesterday my 84 year old Dad and my Stepmom were attacked and robbed by a transient man while there taking pictures. He ran up behind them and hit my dad with a board in the head, knocked them both down and punched her in the face and stole her camera bag with her wallet and phone inside! Luckily they had just taken their car keys out of it so he didn't get them too. Please be extra cautious if you go there!

Gilgal Gardens is one of the weirdest places to visit in Salt Lake City. It is downtown and easy to get to, there is ample street parking, and it is free. It doesn't take long to go through and it is a pleasant walk through a garden so it is worth taking the time. It was built by an individual evidently to celebrate his religion and also himself, which accounts for the weirdness. of the sculptures.

This free sculpture/flower garden is tucked away in an out of the way location. It is has unusual sculptures, qoutes carved into rocks and a soothing, peaceful feeling. It gives one a smile and a warm feeling. A nice little gem.

A friend of mine showed me this when we were passing nearby. It's true many locals don't even know this place exists. The sculptures are impressive, whether you're interested in Mormon culture or not, and it's equally impressive that one guy would put so much effort into beautifying his backyard. There are usually little booklets you can pay for or borrow and read about why he carved what he did into the rock and what he believed. There are also scriptural quotations all round the garden among the larger formations.
It's worth your while to stop by and see at least once. I always recommend it to friends visiting if they want to see something unique about Utah. I believe the hours are 9-5 in the Winter months and 8-8 from April to October or so.

It is a beautiful small garden with a few sculptures behind a couple houses. It is really nothing spectacular to see here. I wouldn’t take time out of my day to visit again.

What are the hours? Is it open Sunday?
Thanks!

It has been our experience that the Garden's have hours but they are not very strict about them. Sometimes there is someone there to greet you and at other times there is not. However, the gate is almost always open and you can just walk in.
