Spent several hours here on a beautiful October day. Enjoyed a ranger led tour of the Breakthrough battlefield trail. Very informative. Ranger was well spoken. All staff were informative and friendly. Very good audio tour at no extra charge of all areas - battlefield, Tudor Hall and museum. Spent 4 1/2 hours and could've spent more. Recommend for Civil War... More

Thank you so much for your review. What you didn't mention is how the audio tours are tied to our Duty Called Me Here exhibit, located inside The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier. Here, visitors choose from among a dozen real Civil War soldiers, then follow that soldier's story through letters and correspondence throughout the war. It's a... More

The Civil War museum was so interesting - I must admit, when my friends said we were going, I wasn't too thrilled. But step inside, and I was enthralled by all of the exhibits and the outside areas are beautiful as well. Both adults and children will find this experience very worthwhile - being able to pick a soldier at... More

This private Civil War museum, located near Petersburg is a must see! Plan on spending the day. It is a work of love by the creators. A plantation owned by their ancestors is the base of the museum. It is faithfully restored and recreated. What makes it special is that it not only exhibits the plantation house, but also the... More

Thank you for the thorough review - you've pretty much covered everything! The film, "War So Terrible," is a PG-13 depiction of the harsh realities of a the life of the common soldiers during the Civil War. There is a judiciously edited version available for school groups, younger audiences, or anyone that simply prefers the story without as much violence.... More

We had been told not to miss Pamplin Park, but had limited expectations. Exhibits are very informative, well executed. The way you can follow different themes meant that each if the four of us were free to enjoy it in our own way. Be prepared to take some time, as there's a museum, then historic house and farm, a very... More

This park had the best civil war museum. What I read about said to stay about 3-4 hours. I ended up staying for 5 hours. Very interesting stories and a great battle field room where it felt like you were in the battle itself.

This private facility has nailed it when it comes to a living museum. There is a ton of stuff to get involved in and see and do. We only had a short time but we got to see the museum (so well done) with audio tour, then we had a talk on shooting a rifle (including watching it being fired!),... More

There are actually two distinct parts to this attraction as you can see by the reviews of both Pamplin Park and the Museum of the Civil War Soldier. They are both in the Pamplin complex and not separate stops. The museum is one the best museums we have EVER visited. Terrific audio which narrates fascinating exhibits for all elements of... More

Wow! Thanks for the fantastic review! There is a shorter version of the Civil War combat film ("War So Terrible") that we show to school groups which omits the worst of the violent details while still maintaining the historical realism. Both versions are available on DVD from our museum store. We're glad you enjoyed your visit so much. Please come... More

We spent a week in Petersburg touring Civil War sites. We did Pamplin last and it was the highlight of the trip. What a bargain! This was about $12 bucks each and i would have paid $50, having known how good and tasteful it is. The "Trial By Fire" in the museum part is amazing! Disney World attractions have nothing... More
