Experience the beauty & charm of Old Town Albuquerque! The center of community life in the city. Founded in 1706, by Governor Francisco Cuervo y Valdez, Old Town follows the traditional Spanish pattern with a plaza at its center and a church surrounded by homes and businesses. Most of the historic homes are still inhabited and many have been renovated into today’s shops, galleries and restaurants. Stroll the Plaza, dine al fresco at our many restaurants, stay at our hotels and B&B’s, visit our museums and shop at over 150 fine retail shops and galleries for handmade gifts from the Southwest and around the world. Romantic hidden patios, winding brick paths, vibrant flower gardens and dramatic balconies await your discovery and selfies. Wrought iron benches and adobe bancos welcome you to relax in the shade. Watch the tumbleweeds blow by and bask in New Mexico’s wonderful sunshine. Shopping in Old Town is an incomparable ethnographic experience. One of a kind handcrafted treasures from around the world, as well as those that are distinctly Southwestern, can be found in so many fabulous shops, boutiques, galleries and artist studios. When in New Mexico, you should eat like we New Mexicans eat! Enjoy the spice & flair of New Mexican traditional cuisine. Savor complex dishes prepared with red and green chillis. It comes in red or green based upon its drying time and genetics, and is incorporated into recipes that have evolved from the local Native American & Spanish cultures. Enjoy one of the many restaurants, cafes & coffee shops featuring everything from the famous bacon green chilli cheeseburger to ambient fine dining. For over three centuries Old Town has been the heart of the Southwest. It is the most important Historical Zone of the City of Albuquerque and home for many families whose brave ancestors founded the city. Old Town is found off I-40 (take the Rio Grande Blvd. Exit South).

I was surprised shop owners opened so late. Tourists sat around the square by 9 am waiting but.... the wait was worth it. Shopping ,sights and history were great. Many artists shops and Indian made shops. Also, a bonus, Indian artists also spread their wares...More

This historic old square is very touristy with lots of souvenir shops. I guess we were expecting something more quaint.

Had a couple of hours to spend and decided to visit the Old Town. Charming buildings, a few interesting shops. Especially liked the Church Street Cafe for breakfast! It was a quiet morning but a good choice.

Unfortunately Old Town was old and worn out and kind of dead. Not at all like Santa Fe. There was just nothing happening.

Lots to look at and to buy. Items here look to be half authentic and great. Prices may be a bit pricey, but it is your typical souvenir shops.

This is a must see if you're in town. Plenty of shops and restaurants along with a few little interesting places.. A top into the oldest church is a must. This is not really an all day type of place, but shouldn't be missed.

There are a ton of little shops to visit and buy some SW souveniers if you care to. A very old church to see...worth the time. Lots of places to grab a bite to eat. Fun place to just walk around!

Most sidewalks have ramps at the crosswalks. However, the large old trees along some streets have buckled sidewalks in places. The central plaza is very accessible as are the shops around the plaza.
