This is not an easy trail to hike, especially if you are going to the top (about 7 miles). The trail is gravel, and easily slip. Once at the top, it is about a 1/2 mile walk too the restaurant (being redone now). You can...More

I was visiting the area from Southern California and was very excited to spend some time on the La Luz Trail. The Sandia's had just got a light dusting of snow so the view of the mountain was amazing while hiking up. Very peaceful trail...More

This is not an easy trail, but can accommodate the desires and capabilities of most hikers. I have never gone more than halfway up the Sandia Crest, but at the point I typically stop to rest I have had a wonderful view of deer and...More

This is one of the most beautiful places I have visited. The vegetation is dry all over. The sunset is breathtakingly beautiful.

Although a couple reviews seem to feel this is a walk in the park, it would be dangerous to think of this way. This is a "real hike", not a walk in the park. Elevation gains are significant and enough to cause altitude sickness. Some...More

The trailhead is in a pay area where you should put a $3 in a pay envelope. There is a pit toilet at the trailhead which is great. I didn't do the whole hike, just went up 3 miles and back. Those miles were a...More

Hard to find based on GPS but well worth it. Not hard to hike. Views are great. Not a true hike. More of a strenuous walk.

A great bucket list trail for New Mexico visitors - if you're a local you should have already done it!. An average hiker should be able to do it in 3 to 4 hours, certainly in 5 hours. An altitude gain of about 3600 feet...More

This is a real trail, and by that I mean, it has many obstacles. The trail goes all the way to the top of the Sandia mountains, and is very steep with loose rocks. The novice can climb a short way, and enjoy the views...More

The views of the mountains and the city below are spectacular and you will be immersed in the sights, sounds (and tastes thanks to an abundance of prickly pears) of the southwest. I guess the only reason I didn't give this beautiful trail five stars...More
