Founded in the 1800's this beautiful Catholic Church is small but full of character. Hand painted throughout is just lovely. I am very glad we stopped here. It is an active church that welcomes visitiors. The location is up the road from the Pu'uhonua National park(also a must see). The ground even have a pet dog and 2 cats so... More

We visited the Painted Church on the way to snorkel on the coast, and were glad we did. It's a beautiful church built in 1899 with murals painted inside. A cool little cemetery surrounds it front and back. Have a look at the cemetery at the back, and walk up to see the replica of Michelangelo's 'Pieta'. We even saw... More

A nice beautiful old church you must visit. It's small and only takes a few minutes to view depending on how busy they are. We arrived early and avoided the crowds! No charge to get in but they do accept donations. Beautiful place.

Though I'm not a fan of the history of the missionaries who came to Hawaii and changed their culture, this church has a very interesting history. It is unique and amazing that the paint on the church walls and ceiling have remained in such good condition. Painted Church Rd. is a beautiful and fun drive with small fruit stands at... More

This church is so unique. It was painted from inspiration more than from skill. The effect is so charming.

A quaint little church with spectacular views. Off the beaten path which makes it less crowded. A fun brief stop.

On an island with so many little churches, this one stands out. Lovely white frame church. Visit if you are passing by

It is clear from the grounds that this place is much loved! A beautiful, small church, surrounded by a cemetery where those who also loved it are buried. Worth a look/see, if you are touring the island. Especially lovely were the flowers in bloom when we visited, not fragrant so much but heavily laden with bloom - looking like clouds.

On the outside The Painted Church looks like just another small country church, but the difference stops there. The inside of the building is colorfully decorated with paintings and murals throughout. It's unlike any church I've visited before. Definitely worth stopping to see if you are sightseeing in the Kona coffee region.
