Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After six years of serious exploration of Salem's wonderful rich history, I discovered The Pickering House on a Historic Homes of Salem Tour. I was blown away by the richness of this 17th century home. It is lovingly cared for by Linda and Tim Jenkins in the most thoughtful informative way possible. Truly a "Treasure" in every way possible and so much history! I just love being "history drunk" in Salem!

I found this house while just walking around Salem. It just happened to be open for tours that day so I went in. Well worth the money to see this beautiful home and learn it's history.

It's worth it just to see something that ought to be an architectural disaster but instead is a gem: a first-period New England house reworked in a completely different style (Gothic Revival). The history of the Pickering family is interwoven with American history, and is well told by the personable and very well-informed guides.

Our guide told us the story of Timothy Pickering. If you have a chance go on Kenneth's walking tour.

History was "made" here going back to 1640! Beautiful early New England home and grounds. This is where it all started - come here first!

I don’t believe you can tour this location (I’m fairly positive it is a private residence) but it was neat to look at from a distance for a minute.

We happened to walk by this and was pleasantly surprised to see such an interesting house. Worth a drive by and the cemetary is across the street.

My husband and I got a private tour of the Pickering house during a huge snow storm on March, 13th where Linda and Tim (and Lexie) gave us a wonderful tour of the house. It was the highlight of our time spent in Salem! I hope to return to the Pickering house to celebrate my husband and my 10 year wedding anniversary in a few years time.
