Market Square, known as El Mercado by locals, is a great place to shop where the locals do. You can find anything from clothing to art and furniture, all with a Mexican flare, in downtown San Antonio.

We got off city tour bus and walked the shops. There is a lot to see and buy if you are in the shopping mood. Many of the small shops are inside so nice to walk if hot or rainy.

El Mercado is the largest Mexican market in the U.S. Its outdoor plaza lined with restaurants and shops. While we were there, one of the local vendor had made a Dia del los Muertos Altar in honor of Celia Cruz & Juan Gabriel. She made all the figures & there attire. This mercado is A MUST SEE!

We enjoy going to the Mercado old and new across the street. I always buy Mexican Vanilla there and tile. This trip I was looking for purses and blankets. They have it all. They have places to eat and even put on shows on the weekends.

1 block of shops that have merchandise from Guatemala, Mexico and elsewhere. Fun vibe, good music, food, keep your hands on your little ones as it can be crowded in areas! Restrooms and more stores located in the shopping mall across from the pedestrian only zone.

A very typical stroll through a Mexican mercado, vendors of many kinds. Lots of little cafes and gift shops.

We used to live in San Antonio (hubby is a native) and we have been here many times. On this visit, we went for some trinkets and gifts for our friends in the NE (current home) and were pleasantly surprised by the variety of merchandise available and the prices were very reasonable. There is also a variety of great restaurants... More

I love the Mercado. You really have to go through if you are a visitor in San Antonio. I disagree with some other reviews that say it's all kitsch and junk. Like anyplace else, you have to sift through and decide what you like and what you don't. There are a variety of prices, so be sure to compare stores... More
