We had never heard of the Pig War, so it was a surprise to learn of this joint occupation of the English and the Americans on the San Juan Islands and to learn the war was settled through arbitration; no lives were lost, except the...More

Yes, there aren't too many buildings to see. The redoubt is there, but someone might not think it's as cool as my wife and me. Sure, there are a ton of foxes, rabbits, and bald eagles, but the history of the site is the key....More

Only the pig died. An interesting tribute to a little known chapter in how the map of the United States was drawn. good restoration, good sign boards and well maintained pathways. Oh and the scenery was breathtaking. Especially rom the artillery redoubt.

Beautiful scenery, nice but narrow walking paths. Take the time to walk down to Grandma's Cove. We saw an eagle just hanging out. Make sure to read all the signs about the Pig War.

We love walking along South Beach and picking up drift wood and rocks. Be sure to stop near the signs and watch the cute little kit fox family play in fields and eagles flying overhead.

The history of the site is very interesting and there are some trails around the few original buildings remaining. There are some nice trails and bird life.

A fascinating view of the history of these islands and some of the first settlements. Really well done signage, and stories to make the history come alive.
