    Miraculous Staircase
This is a must see when you are in Santa Fe. There’s a small fee of $5.00 per person to enter and explore this magnificent church. It is said that Saint Joseph himself built the staircase which was built with no foundation at all. Its an architectural wonder and it still to this day a mystery.

    A Must See
Had to go see the stairs. I read about these a while back when a friend told me about these. I really appreciate excellent workmanship and this did not disappoint. When as soon as it opened to help minimize the crowd and it seemed to pay off. The Chapel is fairly small inside but it's well worth a visit. This was a highlight for me in Santa Fe.

    Magical
I knew about it for many years, decades, but did not know where it was. Never looked it up. Took a trip from Canada to here. As we wandered into this chapel in Santa Fe, we saw it. I do not believe in accidental events. Beautiful magicly splandid. Cannot imagine how it made. So I lit a candle for all our relatives past.

Miraculous Spiral Staircase of Loretto Chapel
Have been wanting to see the miraculous staircase since I saw this on TV years ago. The chapel is in private hands and well maintained. One of the locations we visited that encouraged photos. It is spectacular, but so is the entire church.

    Serene Experience
This solemn, serene chapel has beautiful architecture and a recorded aide for visitors to sit and listen to. The staircase is a marvelous piece of architecture with rich, dark wood. Visitors can no longer climb the staircase for safety reasons, but it is worth seeing.

Unique spiral stair is the main draw here
This chapel is famous primarily for its fascinating 19th-century wooden spiral stair which seems to defy gravity as it has no central support pole. The neo-Gothic interior of the chapel is nice though unexceptional. There's a small entrance fee, and I thought it was worth it to have a look at the spiral stair. Since a visit takes only a few minutes and the chapel is very close to the Plaza, I'd recommend a stop here for anyone who might like to see the unique spiral stair.

    Loretto Chapel New Mexico
If you are a catholic, it's an electrifying experience to visit Loretto Chapel. The miraculous stairs will give you goose bumps. The Chapel closes at 5pm that's a bummer for tourist coming from long distance. Even the cathedral of st. Francis Assisi, next to the chapel, was closed at 4 pm. I hope the Loretto Chapel will be open until 7pm at least for tourist to experience this magnificent architectural magic.

    It's Free!
Loretto Chapel houses the oldest Mother Mary statue in the USA. Made in Spain in 1400 it was brought to Santa Fe in 1600. The Loretto Chapel is a free stop with an adjacent beautiful park.

    Cool story behind the staircase
There are a few churches close to each other here. I love the architecture, but it was interesting to people watch inside. You don't have to have a particular religious belief or any at all, to appreciate the stained glass and the spiral staircase. Also to see how important this building and some of the symbols are to its followers.

    Beautiful historical church to see!
DO NOT SKIP this church while in Santa Fe. Its rich, beautiful history is an amazing story and even though it’s privately owned and maintained, and cost $5 to go inside, it’s worth it. The little gift shop has tons of religious items to choose fro, if you’re interested.

Beautiful chapel with amazing decor and amazing staircase.
Informative narrative
Guests are asked to be quiet.
Most in the chapel during our visit were quiet, but not everyone.
Five dollar entrance fee is a bit steep for the amount of time most people spend there and the size of the chapel, but I understand.
Would recommend.

This small chapel is unique because of it's spiral staircase. The chapel itself ifs very pretty, no doubt, but pay the $5 admission fee to see and listen to the legend of how the spiral staircase came to be built. The story is played quietly on speakers in the chapel on a five minute or so loop and it's truly amazing.

I might be in the minority here, but I wasn't too impressed. I thought this was still an active church, but it's a privately owned museum that charges for entry. My fault for not checking beforehand. I didn't think the entry fee was worth it. You pay, go into the very small chapel and see the stairs (which are blocked off), and that's it. As someone else noted, a loud audio history is speaking the entire time.

The Loretta Chapel bills itself as home of the “Miraculous Staircase.” The only thing miraculous is their marketing campaign selling $5 tickets to see a wooden spiral staircase. Walking into the sanctuary, one is greeted by a sign asking for silence as this is a place of worship, while simultaneously, a video is blasting out info on the staircase. As you exit, one is forced to walk through a trinket shop. St. Ignatius would be appalled. If you want to visit a beautiful church, check out the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis Assisi. It’s free, and it offers a true religious experience.

The chapel is beautiful and filled with history. The buttresses, stained glass and the famous staircase are all worth seeing in person. However, the staircase is off limits to touch or go up and there is no docent to help tell the history of the chapel.

There is a $10 charge to tour the small chapel for which I had hoped to have a guide share more of the inside story of the chapel and it’s elements.

The staircase was indeed a miracle of architecture with a lovely tale. BUT, and it is a BIG BUT, it has been ruined completely as they added a railing. Makes the work of art look ugly! Then there is a 5.00 per person entry fee. The person taking the fee could not have cared less that we were there. Altogether really not worth it.

I had heard the story about this stairway and the church it is in and wanted to see it and sort of "pay my respects," I would recommend that you look at it on Youtube and send a denotation to some charity if you feel as I did. The church was purchased by a private family that runs it as clearly a very profitable business and the only money that seems to go to the church is if you happen to put more money into a little collection box in the church. If the funds were going to the church and I'm not even Catholic, I'd have no problem paying to see it but it seemed like just another profit operation to me. Would you pay to visit the church in Rome if the money went to a business?

We heard about this staircase as we were leaving our hotel to go to the Georgia O'Keeffe museum - one of the other travelers told us about it. We walked to the chapel and were so impressed by the staircase. After we heard the story of it, it made it even more special to us.

The Loretto Chapel is a wonderful example of what can be done with wood, brick and mortar to inspire and awe. The Art of the Stained glass, Statues and design are absolutely beautiful. The visit we had was inspiring for that reason and also for being around people who were truly walking through with peace in their hearts. The cost of visiting, for us, was $5.00 each. I've spent more for a coffee and received much less for the experience. I highly recommend a visit, if only for the experience of being around people who are truly in awe of their surroundings.
Note: we were allowed to bring in our 16-year-old Daxie who was also well behaved
and admired!

Beautiful, free standing spiral staircase with 2 full spirals up to balcony area. Too bad you can't use it. Very pretty church, great photo moments inside. It has the stations of the cross on the walls of Jesus' so-called trial, journey to Calvary carrying the cross and eventual resurrection. Small admission fee, but a lovely place to stop and rest and enjoy the architecture.
