If you love hiking and are okay with high altitude (as in 10,000 ft and above) as well as steep ascents, the Winsor Trail above Santa Fe, NM affords many options... Raven's Ridge, Nambe Lake, La Vega, Deception Peak, according to your capabilities. Every season...More

Winsor is a very nice hiking trail, but is world class when it comes to mountain biking. Only the really hardy will ride up it. Most will catch a ride to the top and then drop the 3,000 vertical feet back into Santa Fe. This...More

I've been over a lot of the trail. If you start trekking East by the Ski Area you will eventually come to a fence. Go right on a side trail and come to a picturesque canyon. Instead you can continue on the trail going up...More

An excellent trail system, that is somewhat less crowded than the Dale Ball and other trails closer to Santa Fe. Our favorite thing to do on this trail (beside hike) is to go mushrooming for Porcini (boletes) and Chanterelles. In the late summer early fall,...More

This is the trail to Lake Catherine and Stewart Lake...it is not an easy trail, but not too hard. Just unrelenting climb out of the valley.

Walked just the short distance from the Alpine Ski parking lot to Big Tesuque campground, because we were a group of 12 or so, and this enabled us to carpool. (Some in the group started at the alpine Ski Basin parking lot.) This 3-mile section...More

The part of the Winsor trail system most people are familiar with "starts" at the Santa Fe ski area parking lot and runs up into the Pecos Wilderness. Actually you can follow the same trail downhill all the way to Tesuque if you like, and...More

This is the main hiking trail leading from the Santa Fe Ski Basin into the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It is not for those with heart conditions or similar medical concerns, and even its base is high enough (over 10,000 feet) that you'll be puffing...More

This is a great trail which can be found at the top of the Ski Santa Fe parking lots. It is 15-20 degrees cooler than town in the Summer and most of the time one is shaded by the tall pines. It is alo great...More

There are several maps of the trail. If you like to hike, try the Sierra Club Book of Day Hikes Trails in the Santa Fe area. The USGS also has trail guides of the area. You can pick one up at the Travel Bug, located on... More
