Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I did a sunrise photo tour with Mark in October 2021. He picked me up from my hotel about an hour before sunrise, and we drove to Overlook Point in White Rock to catch the sunrise. From there, we proceeded to several points meandering northward toward Ghost Ranch. Mark was proactive, asking me about my own photography and what I wanted out of our excursion, and offering hands-on tips the entire time. We stopped at several points which I would never have thought to stop at, and I was able to make some memorable images. I only wish I'd stayed in Santa Fe longer to do another excursion. All the more reason to come back.

Mark set me at ease right away asking what were my objectives for the day and what did I most want to learn from him. He took all of my interests and (lack) of experience into account and designed a plan for day for me to learn more about my new digital camera, my I-phone and photo philosophy and techniques. I learned about subjects, composition, focusing, lighting and shadows and much more. At the end of the day I knew how to take better care of my equipment and gained a much deeper understanding of the equipment. I also am much more engaged in the experience of taking photos and improving significantly the photos that I take, mainly landscapes and architecture and other open spaces. I ma forever grateful to have taken the time and made the effort to learn from Mark in Santa Fe.

Mark came highly recommended and did not dissapoint. Trying to talk him into a Grand Canyon whitewater overnight photo workshop. I hope he puts one together. Until then, you can't go wrong with how much fun we had with one of his workshops. Thanks again Mark.

Spending the day with Mark was a pleasure. He is an engaging, intelligent and talented man. I am a novice photographer and learned a great deal about the functions of my digital camera as well as photo composition in landscape photography. He knows the area well and will adapt the time to fit your interests in terms of geography and photography. We spent an entire day and my spouse is not a photographer at all and he thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Interesting conversation and shared his knowledge of the area. He is genuinely interested in sharing his passion for and wisdom in photography. Highly recommend.

My family of four (two teens, my wife and I) had a wonderful day tour with Mark. He guided the itinerary and lead us to some breathtaking spots both for hiking and shooting. He is extremely knowledgeable of the area and an excellent teacher who engaged with each of us at our own level to help as all improve our photography. He is also a very interesting and charming person who provided a wonderful opportunity for my family. Highly recommended.

I had great landscape photography workshop with Mark at Ghost Ranch. I learned a lot and improved my skills. Mark was easy going and always positive and helpful. When my wife saw the photos I took she said Wow!

Just finished a workshop with Mark Schumann. He's a great teacher and knowledgeable about photography and the Santa Fe / Ghost Ranch area. I'm an amateur photographer but have been shooting pictures for 40 years. Mark encouraged me to try some new things including manual focusing for daytime landscape photography and manual settings for night shots. Both produced some great photos.

When we visited Santa Fe at the end of July, my husband and I booked two full days with Mark. My husband is a past-pro and now hobby photographer, and I have some (but limited) photography experience. Mark did a great job of meeting both of us at our ability and comfort levels. He was able to switch between working with my husband and his mirrorless DLSR and me and my iPhone when I got tired of shooting with my DSLR! Mark checked in with us on what we were interested in shooting, and customized our site visits accordingly. We especially loved visiting Valles Caldera and seeing the tons of prairie dogs popping up everywhere!

While we were on our tour, we got some very sad news about the loss of a friend and colleague. Mark was so compassionate and kind toward us. It's important to realize that in addition to technical skills and knowledge, Mark is someone who will take good care of you and your traveling companions when you are on a tour or in a workshop with him.

I highly recommend touring or taking a workshop with Mark on both a personal and professional level. We enjoyed our time with him very much, and you will, too!

My family (wife and parents-in-law) had a wonderful day touring the Santa Fe region with Mark, and his advice really helped boost my photography skills with easy-to-follow tips. We explored some local viewpoints, historical sites, and then Ghost Ranch. Mark was really friendly, professional, and helpful. He did a great job planning the trip around our interests and responding to our needs out on the road. All the rest of my photographs after that point in the trip turned out a lot better because I used his photography advice. I'd enthusiastically recommend Mark's tours and workshops for a unique enriching blend of photography class with New Mexico historical/scenic touring.

I just returned from Mark Schumann's 5-day workshop "Photographing the Northern New Mexico Landscape" held at Ghost Ranch. What a fantastic week! Mark was knowledgeable, professional, patient, and lots of fun. He broke down the fundamentals of good landscape photography in an interesting and easy to understand way. I feel like I was able to take my skills to another level and can't wait to get out and shoot more. Great experience...
