Cannot wait until it reopens
Dec 2020
This is my favorite local museum. I can't wait until they reopen with all of the new remodels. I will be first in line.

Modern art museum
Nov 2019
The museum is great if you like a lot of modern art but not for me. I used to like going there when they had different types of art but they sold all their precious antiquities off and I no longer enjoy looking at oddities.

Not Such A Good Museum
Nov 2019
It is the best in Buffalo but that is not saying much. Some of the paintings, sculptures and exhibits are truly ugly and have no business being shown anywhere. There could be a lack of talent in the Buffalo area so they take what they can get. Not worth a visit there, so many better art and museum choices in big cities.

When is a gallery not a galllery?
Jul 2020
This Gallery is actually a Museum, a small gem tucked away at the south end of Elmwood Park. It houses one of the finest collections of Post Impressionist art in America, and can be taken in in an afternoon. Their small kitchen turns out big flavor in its limited but thoughtful menu, so do lunch and then enjoy a stroll thru their 2 floors of contemporary masters.

Visit 612 Northland Ave. site during construction
Feb 2020
I was recently in Buffalo (Feb. 2020) and discovered that the Gallery is undergoing a huge renovation of its grounds and will be closed for a few years. My cousin's husband (Rodney Taylor) is commissioned there and also is one of the artists featured at its other location, The Northland site, located at 612 Northland Ave. in Buffalo. A wonderful show about "Home" is up through April 12!

Even though they have 9000 pieces in their collection there is not even 1 procent on display. They are closing from Nov 4th for about four years, the future looks promising, hopefully the art gets out of the basement.

Extensive modern art collection
Sep 2019 • Couples
Beautiful grounds and gorgeous architecture! The art collection features many modern pieces. I highly recommend the tour as the docent is knowledgeable and engaging. Please note that stating in November, the museum will be closed for sometime (estimated 2 years) for renovations. In the meantime, the museum is sponsoring art around the city. I can’t wait to visit again when it reopens in 2022!

Just ok
Sep 2019
The art gallery is very small with very few exhibits. You can walk through it in a very short period of time. The upper floor had a light show exhibit. There was no one to guide people through or explain how the exhibit worked. A museum worker stood at the bottom of the stairs and spent her time on her personal phone instead of helping out. Not recommended.

Many thanks for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you had a less than stellar experience. If you decide to visit us again, we invite you to join one of our public tours, which are offered each week on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 1:30 pm, and on Saturdays at 11:30 am and 1:30 pm. You are also welcome to pick up a Gallery Guide for our current special exhibition, "Anthony McCall: Dark Rooms, Solid Light," near the entrance to the exhibition. Many of our collection works are not currently on view as we prepare for our campus development project to begin on November 4, 2019. We look forward to having much more art on view when we reopen as the Buffalo AKG Art Museum in early 2022.

Monument to vandalism by arts administration
Sep 2019 • Couples
This must have been a beautiful museum once upon a time...but the exterior is defaced by horrible sculptures, the main wing had been emptied of old pictures, and the new wing decorated like a garage sale...proposed plans for a new addition are even uglier...somebody needs to stop it and arrest the museum administration for cultural vandalism, in my opinion...depressing outside and inside—stay away if you are the least bit aesthetically sensitive, or you’ll want to check into the Richardson campus next door, as I did...but it was closed.
