Upper Thames St (where it parallels America's Cup Ave) is an interesting place to walk, even in the winter. We've been going to Newport annually for about five years now, and have always walked upper Thames St as well as a considerable part of Thames St below Memorial Blvd. We usually eat once or twice at one of the many... Thames St. has both high-end shops and the usual touristy TShirt shops. The antique center at the old armoury is worth at least an hour of browsing, if you're into that sort of thing. The accommodations along the Street are outstanding and very well located.

As a Rhode Island native one of my favorite things to do in the summer (and winter, truth be told) is to stroll around Newport, eating, drinking, and shopping. Thames Street offers everything from great people watching, beers, drinks, pizza, ice cream, whatever it is that you may want. Make an afternoon of it and just stroll around.

Thames is a great street to stroll in the warmer months. Lots of shops and boutiques to pop in and out of. Some expensive name brands such as Patagonia as well. Midtown Oyster Bar at the beginning of the street is a great place to have a drink and some apps.

Thames Street is a long street that runs through the center of Newport. It's a pretty street that goes along the water. Lots of shops, pubs and restaurants. Great Street to stroll, window shop, browse the stores or people watch. Very busy in the summer, not as much in the Spring and Fall, but dead in the winter.

There are so many places to visit, during the off season things close by 6, but there are a few things that stay open. There are more places to eat as well.

Spent the afternoon walking Thames. Great place to take in some great food, watch a game or just have a drink. Historic, clean and well done. Gray skating rink near the wharf.

Make sure you walk the entire street. It's a great way to people watch, but also bar hop, maybe grab a quick bite to eat at several spots along the road. Great small business shopping. Nice scenic views.
