The fascinating aspect was the transformation of the property as aptly described and shown to us by our tour guide. The Duke’s purchased and added on to the property and entertained the socialites of their day. It was then interesting to see how Doris Duke...More

As a dog lover myself it was so fun to imagine six dogs romping through the House, breaking porcelain and then retiring to rest on not so special furniture in the sunroom. The art is great, but it was dwarfed by the view from the...More

This home is not part of the preservation society. It is $25 per person, & the tour is docent lead. Wonderful history, as Doris Duke (the tobacco heiress) lived here, in the summer months only, for 60 years. Landscaping by Frederick Olmsted, of Central Park...More

We toured Breakers and the Marble House and enjoyed both, but Rough Point was our favorite - by a mile. The Doris Duke story is incredible, and the other mansions offer audio tours, which is fine, but Rough Point features personal tours. Their knowledge and...More

Good answer by Richard B. Don't miss Rough Point, if you get a chance, watch the movie Too rich - the secret life of Doris Duke. I visited many mansions, but this is the one I made the trip for.
