Koko Crater Trail is a very steep, straight up trail on railroad ties. It's physically challenging as each step is about 3 feet wide and it gets very steep at the top. The view is gorgeous and worth the hike. Bring plenty of water-especially on a warm day, wear a hat and sunglasses, go when the sun isn't too strong.... More

Hiked Diamond Head Crater earlier in the day and decided another hike would be nice. I heard of this trail and we whisked off w/o any research. Looked at it and figured it would be tiring but it's just stairs up to the top. Holy crap, it's pretty exhausting, and I am in pretty solid shape and have hiked some... More

I excercised a lot before I was hiking so my Brady was ok. It was so hot even if I started around 9 am. The trail was ok.

I was looking for local, legal hikes since I couldn't find anyone to do the Haiku Stairs with me, and this hike was on my list. It is a fun hike with beautiful views at the top. It is straight up an old train track. I read somewhere that the record up was about 14 minutes, and our first time... More

We decided to hike Koko Head at sunrise so we could watch it from the top. The hike itself was very challenging with an hours worth of stairs to climb without much relief. There was also a stretch where you had to climb across 100 railroad ties that were above a gap of 15 feet. So be sure that you're... More

This is a super straightforward hike on a stairmaster. You just keep going up and up and up. Wonderful views at the top. Unfortunately, it was definitely a little dangerous at times, as you are hiking on railroad ties that are falling apart in places. One 40 to 50 foot section in the middle is very exposed and unnerving, as... More

Our family looked forward to this trail. We are not hikers, but we are generally fit. This is as hard as people will tell you, but you just need to take your time and take plenty of water. My 14 year old daughter did it easier than the rest of us. This was a great morning and after it you... More

This is a beautiful and extremely challenging hike. It is a steep climb of railroad ties and dirt that doesn't have handrails and isn't well maintained. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with small children. My husband started to carry my daughter on his shoulders, but she really threw off his balance so he only went half way. I continued... More

My kids are pretty hard core daughter 5 at the time and son 9 handled this like champs. The views are amazing at the top and the kids loved the experience. Also good to get away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. I would highly recommend water and insect repellent at the top it gets a little hot. Plenty... More
