We were in Oahu 17 days before we plucked up the courage to do this climb but knew that we couldn't come here without doing so. It was a hard climb. We both took the detour around the bridge just in case of an attack of vertigo. As we neared the top we more frequently on the side of the... More

If you loved Diamond Head you've got to do this one next. The drive is only slightly further and the views are every bit as good. During WW2 the US military used this crater rim as a lookout. A railway was built to haul supplies up the hillside. The old winch and rail car still sit atop the grade. The... More

It is a straight hike up an old railroad line. I would say over a 1000 steps and you need to be in reasonable shape. The views are great from the top.

The 1100 steps to the top are grueling. They are not your standard 10 inch steps. Some are closer to 18-20 inches, making the climb up and down very strenuous. But...the view at the top is breathtaking. You can see diamond head, Hanauma Bay, the Pacific Ocean from the east shore all the way to Waikiki. It is very difficult... More

This is a straight shot 45 to 65 steep hike up to the summit on a railroad track. Track is heavily used throughout the day, some wooden ties are in need of repair, not the safest trail for children under 12. There is a small section of the track without earth underneath, there is a possibility you could be seriously... More

I like coming here to do my cardio training day. Challenging walk/hike which rewards you with a great view when you're done, even if it's repetitive. I see a lot of regulars exercising here so I'm not the only one with this idea. I like challenging myself here based on time ascending bottom to top and have been keeping a... More

If you’re looking for a challenge and a great workout with gorgeous views to reward you at the top, you should definitely attempt the Koko Head stairs. Also referred to as Koko Head Crater Trail, it can be described as the hiking enthusiast’s dream, and the out-of-shape tourist’s nightmare :))). The trail consists of 1,048 unevenly shaped, rather worn down... More

This is not a easy walk but once you get to the top it is worth every minute. You can just take your time and go at own pace.

Just bring water and a good pair of joggers and race yourself to the top for spectacular views of the coastline.

It's a tough challenging hike up 1048 railroad ties. We are in our mid-40's in good physical condition and this hike kicked our butts. Don't do this hike if you are hang over because you will need a lot of oxygen going up the stairs. Definitely take your time don't be tempted by others who are racing up the stairs... More
