Nicely done and you couldn't ask for a more iconic place to have your picture taken. Was a nice surprise find after having had a drink at Dukes. Line up!

Woke up on our first morning, grabbed breakfast and headed off simply to stand on Waikiki Beach. We came out almost opposite this iconic statue. Excellent piece of work and good to see it decorated in lei. Had the obligatory photo taken and decided we were really here.

There are statues throughout Waikiki of historic Hawaiians. This one is iconic, located along the beach. It makes a good meeting point, and the park it sits in is a nice place to enjoy some people watching or to watch the surfers. Duke was a world class and Olympic surfer and an ambassador for Hawaii.

The statues around Waikiki really add to the atmosphere - you really know you've made it out into the middle of the Pacific. They aren't there as destinations but as something tying the experience of the beach and island together, they are perfect.

A must see stop along the beach walk. Always with lots of leis around his neck. Great picture stop too.

Interesting to see this statue of Duke Kahanamoka and read it's history as you're walking on the strip.

A great Hawaiian beach boy, world class surfing/swimming ambassador, he was an Olympic medalist in the 1920s. A great statue on the beach in the eastern end of Kalakaua Avenue.

The statue of the Duke represents so much of what Hawaii is. Spend a few minutes there just letting the essence of the Hawaii spirit soak in. It is generally covered in leis, starting from the early morning and during the busy times there are hundreds by the end of the day. Although this is cool it does detract from... More

Beautiful statue of this man who I did not know of before (sorry). He was covered with leis (the typical Hawaiian flower garland) and placed very near a huge banyan tree that gives shade. And the Waikiki trolleys passes by all the time. This is Waikiki!
