Quite a challenge. Park car on grass next to walls of houses; it's ok. Lots of shoes and flip flops have died or been left here. You WILL pas a stream a couple of times, so... read more

We should have read the TA reviews before attempting this trail. We were totally unprepared mentally, and some in the group, physically. Would we do it again? Maybe in drier conditions. The falls itself is a 20 foot drop. To me, it was beautiful. To others, it was not worth the hike. But, in general, the adventure is something worth... More

Quite a challenge. Park car on grass next to walls of houses; it's ok. Lots of shoes and flip flops have died or been left here. You WILL pas a stream a couple of times, so either be a great and balanced jumper of (my pick) allow your shoes to get wet. Do not wear white or nice clothes, you... More

There are so many spectacular hikes in Hawaii. Unfortunately, this wasn't one of them. It wasn't terrible, by any stretch, and maybe it is spectacular after a rain when the waterfall chutes are flowing, but I would imagine that it is also even muddier and possibly dangerous then. In dry conditions, it's a long, fairly flat 9-10 miles without a... More

We went yesterday and there was a sign that a landslide had made the trail impassable. There is a shorter alternative trail which is very muddy but the main trail is closed as of Xmas 2015. Perhaps it will open later on in the year. Also there is no parking - the area where you can pull over is a... More

Our son is stationed on Oahu so he and his wife took me, my wife, and our two kids (22s and 16d) on this hike yesterday afternoon. It's been raining quite a bit in the area so we weren't surprised it was muddy - but not having read up on any other reviews we were surprised that it was SOO... More

It was muddy. Yes, it was raining. Yes, it's a rainforest. But, the trail is beat up and badly eroded in many places. Even in good conditions, this trail would require stepping over countless exposed roots. Parts of the trail are in reasonably good shape and are not particularly hazardous for the average hiker (no steep drop-offs, rock slides, etc.).... More

Some quick thoughts after doing the trail Saturday: - I wish we remembered the bug spray, we are covered in bites - The trail is very satisfying to complete as 10 miles is a solid distance. It is a beautiful hike too with great views of the mountains and outlooks of Olomana. It is longer than our normal hike but... More

This is a really great hike and waterfall combo and I felt like I was back living on Kauai until I got to the falls and saw the party (we went on a Saturday) with loud music going on (at least it was Hawaiian music). I didn't mind though and we got into it and were soon climbing up the... More

I am 40 and went here with my 53 year-old husband and 11 year-old daughter. We were told it would be muddy if it had been rainy (it had been), but we were not at all prepared for ankle-deep mud over slippery rocks and roots and at least an hour in and an hour out with little to no break... More

This hike was incredibly scary. SO muddy, steep, and unpredictable. You could not avoid slipping, no matter how nimble. Everyone I went with fell at least twice, hard. Scraped knees, mud all over us from head to toe. We did not come prepared, so clean up to get back into our car was horrifying. Bring a large bag or box... More
