- Yuichi K1 contributionA Great Place To Take Your FamilyMy family and I liked the mall. It is very spacious, and has many places to relax. My son was able to play in the middle courtyard grassy area, which he certainly enjoyed. The Japanese food court has great tempura. We'd definitely eat there again. My wife was very happy that the customer service representative (Jun?) was able to speak with her in Japanese. She said that he was kind and helpful. We'd definitely plan to visit the International market Place again.Dear 124yuichik and Family, Mahalo for your warm words. We are so glad that you and your ohana came and spent time with us. - Resort170474087224 contributionsA Miraculous RecoveryOn November 13, 2023, an extraordinary event unfolded during my visit to the International Market Place in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii. Following an exploration of the mall, I entered the restroom to freshen up and change my shirt. Having spent three delightful hours capturing the beauty of Waikiki Beach, I was taken aback when, upon checking my bag, my newly acquired Samsung tablet was nowhere to be found. Realizing that I had inadvertently left it behind during my earlier restroom visit, I experienced a surge of anxiety given the substantial foot traffic within the mall during the intervening hours. Despite the odds, I decided to seek assistance and approached the customer service desk. There, I had the privilege of speaking with Noah, an individual whose exemplary service left a lasting impression. Expressing my concern about the lost tablet, I was met with unexpected relief as Noah informed me that the tablet had been discovered by the diligent housekeeping staff in the restroom. Their prompt and honest actions salvaged what seemed like a dire situation. I am sincerely grateful for the integrity displayed by the International Market Place's housekeeping team and especially to Mr. Noah for his commendable assistance. This experience has reinforced my belief that the International Market Place is not only a captivating destination but also a secure and trustworthy environment. Despite my oversight, the professionalism and honesty exhibited by the staff have left an indelible mark, reaffirming that visitors to this establishment are indeed in good hands. A heartfelt thank you to the housekeeping team and Mr. Noah for turning what appeared to be a hopeless situation into a miraculous recovery. Above all, gratitude is extended to the higher providence that orchestrated this unforeseen resolution. “God is good “ as what Mr. Noah told me .Aloha Resort17047408722, Thank you for you kind review! Last time we visited was back in Dec 2013 before the remodel. We were sad that it was going to be torn down. Now 2020, our first time back to the International Market Place. We were expecting the worse--a sterile commercial mall that looks like any US mall. We were pleasantly surprised.
Love that the old banyan tree is still prominent and a centerpiece of the mall. Yes, it's full of upscale/pricey shops & restaurants, but still a pleasant place to visit for shopping & eating. Plenty of comfy seating and there's even a display of photos of the old International Market Place in its hey-day. There's a Mitsuwa grocery store where you can pick up some reasonably priced eats.

Wow, I’m so glad my friend and I discovered this shopping center. I just wished we did so earlier. This place has every type of store you can imagine plus a wide range of restaurants and bars. I’m a sucker for an indoor/ outdoor shopping center. I love how the trees were growing in the middle and lit up by twinkling lights. There were so many levels to this center too.

International Market Place is a great place to browse around the shops if you need a break from the sun. The staff at the information desk are very helpful and friendly. We love the restaurants there, especially for happy hour. Eating House, Moani and Herringbone. The Kona coffee shop has great coffee and amazing desserts and pastries but go early because the line gets super long. We wish that International Market Place had a playground for kids, on rainy days it would draw locals and visitors to spend time and shop there. We also miss the free hula show in the evenings….that was always a huge draw for us during the week after cocktails on the grand lanai.

I've been to Oahu 3 previous times so know what the International Market Place USED TO BE. Don the Beachcomber set it up as a very Polynesian market place with thatched roof venues for local crafts-persons and trinket/souvenir vendors. It was fun and evoked the feel and expected vibe of a tropical island. GONE....simply demolished and turned into a high end shopping mall for top named brand companies inside concrete & glass showrooms. It's the same story along the avenue....Waikiki is nothing but a overpriced long shopping mall ......save your money and to to LA where you can shop the same goods on Rodeo Drive in Bev. Hills. There are as many tall palm trees there as you find on Oahu. Nothing "Polynesian" about International Market Place.

Aloha Tigrbug, we regret to learn that our reimagined center is not in your favor. Our development teamed worked with DTL , a Hawaiian Strategy Firm to create an environment that celebrates the rich history of this land that came before the last International Market Place. We're proud to have design elements incorporated through the center the pay tribute to Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV - something that was not showcased in the previous Market Place. The ahupua'a in which we sit is also celebrated through the water features throughout the center and of course we celebrate the musical history of International Market Place in our Banyan Court. We continue to honor Don the Beachcomber in our tree house where his fascinating story is shared as part of our cultural journey. Our center does look different than the original market place, however the intention is to honor the past as authentically as possible. As an important asset of the Queen Emma Land Company, proceeds from the Center directly benefit the Queen's Health System to which we are truly grateful to have serve our community, especially during this trying time. With a mixture of local, national and unique stores and restaurants, our hope is that visitors and locals alike will find something special and create new lasting memories with us.

As a local, and I am sure like many others can resonate, the crowd and the lack of parking make it difficult and discouraging for people to visit Waikiki from elsewhere. Then come International Marketplace. This longstanding establishment has been my go-to place whenever I visit Waikiki with friends or the in-laws, because of the amble, spacious parking stalls and the variety of shops and restaurants. There is Mitsuwa Marketplace for your groceries and Japanese goods, Kona Coffee Purveyors for your freshly baked pastries and artisan coffee, and Liliha Bakery to get your local grindz and their coco puffs. Did I also mention they host a market (I think twice a week, forgot the days) with local businesses selling souvenirs, fresh produce, and food. Parking is pretty reasonable at $3/hour with validation ($10 minimum purchase at one of their shops) and you are only a few minutes away by foot to Kuhio Beach. Highly recommended!

I liked the old Interma better...
Now it's a modern and clean building, with a stylish cafe, Nijiya Market with Japanese food, and ABC Store with souvenirs. There is a fee for the cash exchange, but it's convenient because it's in the center of the first floor.
However, the Rakuten Lounge is a real disappointment.
There is also a JCB lounge in Waikiki, but the Rakuten Lounge has time limits,
and several people are constantly patrolling, and if you get tired and try to sleep,
they'll come and tell you not to sleep, adults!
(There's also a sign limiting coffee to one cup per person, so stingy!)
It really felt like a lounge under surveillance, and it was the worst kind of place!
(※I will never use it again.)
If you have a JCB card in Waikiki, I definitely recommend the JCB Lounge!

Very disappointing. The only reason we gave it 3 stars was because we saw Kimo and Leilani Kahoano's hula show but from the YouTube video I saw it looks like Kimo was saying farewell. We used to meet friends at the IM but not anymore.
If your market research told you that this is the best remake of an iconic location in Waikiki I would get a new formula. Nobody wants to go here anymore.

Aloha MJMJ-Aloha,
We regret to learn that your most recent visit to International Market Place did not meet your expectations. We understand and respect that our reimagined center has changed in ways that may not be favored by all and we hope that as we grow and settle, we'll be able to offer new memories and experiences that can be appreciated by visitors and locals alike.
We take pride in the ongoing efforts to celebrate and honor our storied past that includes not just the former International Market Place known to most, but also the land of Kaluaokau which once belonged to Queen Emma, and the overall ahupua'a of Manoa that includes Waikiki area.
Throughout our center you'll notice details such as water features representing the 'Apuakeahu Stream and Waiakekaua falls, plants favored by Queen Emma, etched musical lyrics on our elevators honoring Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV, unique imagery of the native Hawaiians who lived and worked the land of the area, the iconic Banyan Tree and more that pay tribute to the many important pieces of our history that weren't afforded the opportunity to be celebrated and honored in past iterations of the market place. We invite you to explore our Cultural Journey on our website at https://shopinternationalmarketplace.com/cultural-journey/ or in person throughout our center indicated with informational plaques placed throughout Level 1 & 2.
While our O Na Lani Sunset Hula Show is currently on hold, we do have plans to continue sharing our history through Hula in the coming months. We’re also excited to share that we’re welcoming some fantastic new locally owned and operated restaurants to our Grand Lanai including the iconic Liliha Bakery, Moani Waikiki and Skybox Taphouse.
We do hope you'll visit Waikiki again and that you'll consider giving us another chance to share our Aloha.

Truly the heart of Waikiki, the International Market Place is the perfect oasis in the center of the world's most exciting neighborhood.
Be sure to watch their free show: O Nā Lani Sunset Stories Hula Show on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday evening.
With everything from an ABC Store to pick up on the go items, to fast casual dining on the main floor and fine dining on the third floor, a variety of shops in all price ranges, evening entertainment, a luau, and a variety of special events and classes (check with the concierge) this is our favorite spot to shop in Waikiki!

Been a while since I've been there. Are there still a bunch of cheap, Asian vendors on the side?
Written 7 July 2019
No the International market was actually torn down from what used to be there and they built an indoor/outdoor mall around the Old Banyan Tree. Basically now upscale shops! I in my opinion not worth going to anymore..to pricey for me!
Written 7 July 2019
Is there any cheap eats here? When I look at their webpage, it only has like expensive garbage.
Written 25 April 2018
I found most of the food in Waikiki to be expensive garbage tbh! This was the least expensive and the margarita pizza was fresh and pretty good 😏

Is it now a cement jungle similar to Alaska Moana with a. Lot of trendy stores or have they retained the "old" .Hawaiian ambiance which I loved. I have been coming here since 1962 over 150 times. I would like to know if there are still street vendors since last time I was there was late 2014and renovation on PK Hotel just beginning to accommodate new construction. The street vendors (some) were still there

With the exception of the banyan tree, it is just like other malls with trendy stores and restaurants. There are several areas to sit and listen to the Hawaiian music and people watch. There is an alley nearby with many kiosks that sell pretty much everything and you can haggle over prices.

If you mean all the little carts full of wonderful items, just walk a short distance west on Kalakaua Ave from the International Marketplace, to the Holiday Inn Hotel. There is a small street/alley called Dukes Lane. That is where all the little carts seem to be. To locate this place on Google Maps or Google Earth, just go to: 46 Dukes Lane, Honolulu, HI I hope this helps.

Unfortunately everything now is run by the almighty dollar, yen or yuan. I'll post new pictures of their progress in the next few weeks.
