Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Ala Wai Harbor is owned by the State of Hawaii so you can walk around the harbor. Great to see the surfers and sailboats, as well as the sunset. There are 3 types of parking,
1) Paid ($1 an hour), can be up to 24 hours.
2) Free, 6 hour max. recreational only, mostly for surfers, boaters, and beach goers. Move your car by 10:30 pm, or you will be TOWED.
No late night parking allowed in this area.
3) Permit only area for boat owners, these spots are outlined in yellow lines. Don’t park between the yellow lines on the pavement. You will be TOWED if you accidentally park here.

We took three tours that left from this place, the place has restrooms which were acceptable and a nice parking with trees which charged us $ 1 per hour, they do have an old man taking pictures of the cars that didn't pay to park since the parking doesn't have an attendant there so pay your dues.

For a place that seems so interested in the environment, wildlife conservation, and other natural resource concerns, they really do a lousy job of either enforcing rules to eliminate trash and garbage in the water, or spending some of the taxes on hiring people to clean this up.
I had never actually been to the harbor and marina before, and was totally shocked and saddened to see what a garbage dump it was. Plastic waste, paper, wood dumped in the water, styrofoam containers, coffee cups, and just generally every kind of garbage you can think of. Much of this could be removed from the shore with a net of some kind in about 30 minutes. Some needs some trash collection on the bottom.
Just a disgrace and should be corrected and then somehow enforced littering laws need to be put in place. I would be ashamed if i had a boat in there to take any guests out to my yacht because it looks so crappy.

The water has trash floating in it, the roads are crumbling and throwing up dust, the bathrooms are disgusting, the landscaping is scraggly, some docks have fallen into the water, etc. To call it “third-world” would be an insult to the much nicer marinas you find in such countries.

Visited here to get on a catamaran. Had the unfortunate experience of looking at the public bathroom. No doors on any of the stalls, no toilet seats, zero toilet paper, someone’s bed on the floor. I can’t imagine the types of diseases on the floor here. Absolutely disgusting. I’ve been to third work countries with better looking bathrooms. You’re probably better off jumping into the water and peeing with all the garbage floating around in the water.

I gave this a 2 star because of the condition and considered giving a 1 star. I would rate the harbor a 5 as a prime location, for accessibility, beautiful and extreme potential for views and atmosphere. In it's current condition you can still have awesome scenery with boats and water at sunrise and sunset. The State should be ashamed for not maintaining and making this a focal point for the area. Great restaurants, parks, Hawaiian Hilton Village and Waikiki Beach all next to it. Perfect location for a showpiece. Issues: One of the nastiest harbors (debris) I've been around and in serious need of cleaning. Absolutely would not want to be exposed to water here. Don't count on using restrooms. The Men's has been padlocked for sometime and someone has actually tried to enter and partially torn the steel framing from the wall. The women's is operable but at night, was occupied by a homeless resident who slept there and blocked the door with a bicycle. There are other homeless who occupy the restroom area at night. Time for the State to step up on this one. Can't tell me the tourist revenue is that bad. I will edit submission with a couple of photographs showing the beautiful side later, if possible, and hope to see significant improvement when I return.

This marine beside Magic Island looks picturesque during the day, but particularly at night.
Unfortunately it is filled with floating rubbish which detracts significantly when you get a little closer.
Despite this, many small fish seem to survive.
A few hotels front this marina; apart from them, the area does not offer any real dining locations or bars.
