On the day we went, it was VERY windy, and that caused the steam coming off the hot spring to blow across the top, obscuring our view. We could still see the colors interspersed between the clouds of steam, but it was not a clear view. However, behind the Grand Prismatic, there was another equally colorful hot spring that amazed... Amazing colors is what this one is about. It is really beautiful. It is a bit tough to see with all of the steam, and being at ground level. I heard they are building an elevated viewing platform on the opposing hill, that would make a huge difference and would make this even more impressive than it already is.

The weather will dictate what kind of views you will have while visiting this and any other attraction in Yellowstone. Whatever the weather, stop and take some time here.

I am sure this looks so much better from the sky. You can't really get the full effect from the ground. Though it is still really pretty. The colors are beautiful. This is still a must see.

Try going on a sunny time when the sun is out. The colors look more radiant on a sunny day. However the short hike to look it from above was closed due to construction,so it was disappointing.

The Grand Prismatic spring was absolutely beautiful. It would be nice though if they had an elevated area that would able you to get better photos of the springs, but the ones that I did take were very nice. Very beautiful! Nature at its finest!

I tried to plan us arriving in this area when it wasn't crowded. (Really Early or really late) I had been warned that if you see tour busses in the parking lot, don't try it. However, it was our last day at Yellowstone and we didn't get the early start to the morning that I had planned and when we... More

I went with my family and walked a bit on the boardwalks to get to the spring. It was absolutely amazing. As always, DO NOT go off the walk and onto the ground as you are disturbing nature! Also, watch your children (even the older ones) so they don't fool around and end up boiling in the spring. Always enjoy... More

we loved this place! We visited in October and because of the cooler temperatures the hot springs created ALOT of steam in the air. We could hardly see the walk ways. Good thing there are railings. But it created a whole new beauty to such a beautiful place. Loved it!,

Its a must visit place. The beauty of this place is hard to express in words. This place needs a bit of planning and improvisation though. If its a cloudy day then you may not be able to see all this place has to offer. The best time to visit is between 9 am - 1 pm on a sunny... More
