Cool experience, but strenuous.

It was fun to visit monument geyser basin, but it was quite a bit of work to get there. You will be hiking up some relatively steep terrain. I would hike it again, but keep in... read more

This is rated number 2 for geysers to see in the park. Don't waste your time. Instead walk across the road and look at the geysers right there by the gibbon river, they are way better! The only thing this was good for was a nice trail run training for my tri the end of this month. It is a... More

We noticed a lot of areas especially on the east side that appeared to have been on fire. Acres and acres that are charred. Ranger said fire happens a lot. But only a few real big ones. They just let nature take its coarse with the dead wood.

There's a reason not many people make it here, it's a good stiff climb up more than 213 m over 2 1/4 km to reach this lesser-known attraction in Yellowstone. There are no gorgeous blue pools here. There are no boardwalks and no signs. This is simply an eerie and beautiful thermal region that is missed by the casual a... More

My son and I did this hike on the same day that we went to the Grand Canyon area and had done two steep trails there. It was also about 3 days after I got out of the hospital with a really really bad stomach bug. Needless to say, I was really not prepared for this hike (and we should... More

This was a favorite during our trip. There are many geysers. They are all interesting to watch and take in.

This trail starts out fine, along the beautiful Gibbon River. But that changes, take it from a senior adult in his mid 70s. The trail is fairly short at 2 miles round trip, but it climbs nearly 650 feet in a little over a half mile. And when you do get to the top of the ridge, this geyser basin... More

It was fun to visit monument geyser basin, but it was quite a bit of work to get there. You will be hiking up some relatively steep terrain. I would hike it again, but keep in mind it is quite a bit more work to hike than the more well-known basins.

The trail goes along the Gibbon River and then climbs up with beautiful views down to the meandering river. It's a nice little workout to climb up. The geyser basin has an otherworldly quality. One can sit on the cliff and take in the view after looking at all the features. There are parking places for about 5 vehicles in... More

Definately worth seeing if you are in Yellowstone. Getting there is easy. Take the road connecting Madison and Norris and look West. It's just south of the artists paintpots. But parking at any time from 9am on is a game of musical chairs. You can wind up circling and circling the parking lot until a space opens up. Unfortunately there's... More

I worked at Yellowstone a few years ago and this is one of those hikes that we did on an afternoon off of work. The hike up is well worth the view. It is off the beaten path and worth it.
