Went here on a Tuesday and very simply wouldn't recommend to others. The trail is a steep hike up to the lake. Any moisture on the ground makes the hike that much more slippery and dangerous. Once we got to the top, we were rewarded with a beautiful pond backed up against a rolling pasture in Lamar Valley. Although distance... More

Describing this hike as easy is a bit misleading, especially since boardwalk hike are labeled as easy. It is true that the hike around Trout Lake is easy, but the climb to get to the lake should be easy to moderate ….. meaning it would be difficult to get up there with a stroller or if you need a cane... It's a short but very steep hike from the trailhead to the lake, but once you're there its a very easy stroll around the lake. It's best on a sunny calm day as the reflections of the trees and clouds are spectacular. The water was crystal clear when were there. Worth the hike. Take bear spray.

I when back to Trout Lake Trail this August to fish 16 years after going for the first time. It was much as I remembered. Wildflowers were in full glory and I saw several mule deer, 2 bison and a coyote who all came to drink from the lake while I fished. Fishing was good. It's sight fishing for large... More

We had this planned as one of our stops that we hadn't read to much about. I don't know why cause it was a beautiful place to spend some time taking it all in. Nice hike and not to hard for those that are looking for a little less strenuous hikes with a beautiful ending. Enjoy.

Fairly easy hike - about one mile uphill and then you are rewarded with a pristine alpine lake. Went in August so the Grizzlies had already moved on from the trout spawning. Lots of dragonflies at the top of all different colors. Coming back down is all downhill and you get a great view towards Cooke City. Nice, quiet hike... More

We had the trails all to ourselves around 8am on what started out as a sunny day in May. The trail to the lake is very well marked, and we saw a number of small animals along the way. There is an uphill climb involved, and I was glad I had my hiking pole to help (especially on the way... More

A short hike appropriate for families through beautiful wildflowers. We saw people fishing - don't know if they caught anything. Flat walk around the lake. Beautiful setting.

Was a fun easy hike for the family. No problem for the kids and you have to check out the inlet when the trout are spawning. The kids had a blast playing until the creek so take some water shoes.

We really enjoyed this hike, our first hike in Yellowstone, as we came in on the Beartooth Highway. Though every source I found says the trail is "easy," please understand that there is actually quite a considerable amount of uphill hiking required in the first half mile ... I am not physically fit, and found it very tiring, and had... More
