Truly incredible views. Starting at the bottom nice and early you get increasingly good views of the north side of the valley, particularly Yosemite Falls. Worth the short walk to the little lookout halfway up. The upper part continues a pretty steep hike on pretty well kept trail. The bit that got me (vertigo) was a narrow snow covered ledge you need to cross to reach the beautiful woods just below the peak - scary. The rangers had come up and partly cleared it later in the day but still found it difficult.
Tip: I was really lucky with timing (early May) on a Monday. Very few people as the road up was still blocked by snow and COVID kept a lot of Lon distance travelers away. Crowds therefore very light, maybe 30 people total at the summit with me - there can be a lot more.

Perfect place to sit and stay a while, and watch the sun set over Yosemite Valley! Tons of parking and public restrooms available here too.

Absolutely breathtaking views. We drove from Curry Village so it takes a little bit to get up here. Once up there, not a long walk to the scenic point. So beautiful and unreal! We also brought some food to picnic up there (it attracted quite a few bees though so *bee* careful)

In my opinion, one of the most majestic places on earth. Bring your camera. Limited hiking at the point unless you are prepared to do some heavy descents & subsequent ascents. If you have a really good friend, ask them to drive you to the point and meet them back in the valley. Ha, Ha!

A must do when in Yosemite to take in the stunning beauty. The road does close so attention needs to be paid to that timing. We were fortunate to see Glacier Point a day before it closed - just spectacular and beautiful! There is elevation gain and turns on the road to the top. There is a paved trail to the view point. Lots of parking was available.

If you are looking for stunning views that do not require a hike, Glacier Point is for you. It's a bit of a drive to this part of the park (and lots of elevation gain), but it's worth it for the view. This is perfect for folks that aren't super mobile or don't like to hike; they can get the great views without the effort.
My personal feeling is that the views are vastly better from the top of Sentinel Dome and also from the top of Nevada Falls, but those require some hiking and climbing stairs, so if you're not up for those, this is your place! Heck, even if you've done this and would like a slightly different perspective or some easy access to the views, stopping at Glacier Point is well worth it! We did those other hikes and then did this. We still greatly enjoyed it!

Best view of the whole Yosemite Valley, at least among places that don't require a considerable hike. You can get a very good sense of the geography and the landmarks of Yosemite. Nevada, Vernal and Yosemite falls are readily visible from here as well.

This is a great look over Yosemite NP from the top. We spent day one exploring the top before we went to valley. The only issue was we had a lot of haze from California fires, but it was kind of clear by afternoon. We had dogs so we were able to bring them on the hike around Glacier Point. We went on weekday. So it was not super busy.

Sandwiched between the 2020 Park closures (Wawona Hotel) and the planned closure of GP Road in 2022, this was the ideal time in 2021 to reach the Point. My jaw dropped. Like the Northern Rim of the Grand Canyon or Observation Point in Zion - this is an awe-inspiring perspective of treasured landscapes of the USA. Get here if you can. Your soul will thank you.

Hi! Headed to Yosemite this summer and Glacier Point road be closed. Is it possible to do a hike from Curry Village to Glacier Point in a day? Husband and I are healthy and not too out of shape.

This is a great question for the Yosemite forum. Folks have been planning their very very long day hikes to Glacier Point, and we are 'chatting' about their plans.
If you go up the Mist Trail to the Panorama Trail and then down the Four Mile Trail, that's about 15 miles with roughly 4,000' of elevation gain (there is some up and down during the hike from 4,000' Yosemite Valley to 7,200' Glacier Point.) No water available at Glacier Point.

I'm thinking of going in early September 2020.
Is it (a) possible to drive up there without snow/ice and (b) get an RV up there?

We visited in September and it was hot and sunny. Sun hats, T shirts and shorts were appropriate. It is more of a fire risk season than snow and ice! A wedding party were there for their photos and bridesmaids wore off the shoulder dresses and some were barefoot. The shop sells fantastic ice creams - Think large Cornetto! Yes you can get an RV there. Coach trips go there. The road up is a normal two way road, with the odd narrow bend. There is a large car park, which is one way, so you shouldn't have to worry about 3 point turns. It does get busy so you may have to queue to park.

Hello,
I’m after a bit of help. We are hoping to complete glacier point whilst on our travels.
We are in a EV motorhome. What are the best options for this?
Thanks in advance

I would check with the park, certain length vehicles are prohibited from driving all the way up to glacier point due to lack of turn around space

Is Glacier Point reachable at end of March? By any way other than difficult hikes?

Hi As usual, the best way to get information is to use the TripAdvisor forum for Yosemite. Folks who know and love Yosemite are happy to answer.
Glacier Point Road is always closed to vehicles in March. Some of the Mist Trail and some of Four Mile Trail from Yosemite Valley up toward Glacier Point are closed to hikers in March.
You might be able to cross country ski or snowshoe many miles from Badger Pass to Glacier Point, if you have the skills, experience, and stamina.

Hi, Annette. What would you like to know about this attraction?
Does anyone know how long the ride was from San Francisco? We will be coming from there going straight to Glacier Point so the next day we can leave to the shuttle drivers. And what address do we use for GPS? Thank you.

I drove from San Jose it the drive was a bit more than 3 hours to the northwestern edge of Yosemite. The drive from SFO should be similar. I'd add another 90 minutes to that estimate to get to Glacier Point since its at the end of a long road. So figure on 4.5 hours +/-. You should be able to use "Glacier Point Yosemite National Park" in your GPS. Have fun.
is there a bus to get up to Point Glacier

But if you are driving, there is a parking lot that tends to get backed up because people are waiting for spots as they enter but we found that if people would just move around, there was ample parking on the next level. Anyway, it is a "have to visit" location if you are going to Yosemite. Good luck and have fun.
We are driving straight to Yosemite from San Fran after arriving from Australia. Planning on staying 3 nights in the park before heading to Lake Tahoe do you have some suggestions for us? Glacier Point does look like a place to visit.
Many thanks Jenny

You must do Glacier Point. During the day....amazing. Stargazing at night.....WOW.
If your staying in Yosemite Valley ( Awani, Majestic, Yosemite Valley Inn, etc) it's easiest to hit Glacier Point on the way in before you check in. If not it's 45 minutes to an hour to drive to from the valley floor, which you'll do if you go at night. It is one of the best places on earth for looking at the stars in the night sky.
During the day, the meadow at the base of El Capitan is amazing and you can watch the climbers on their 5 day climb. Bring really good binoculars. That meadow is where we got married in November. Same thing with Half Dome, gotta see it.
We've had plenty of recent rain so all the falls will be at full flow. Yosemite Falls (easy to get to), Bridlevale (a little longer hike) and all are amazing.
Most beautiful restaurant is at the Majestic (Awani). Good food - trout and prime rib, Maybe a little better restaurant is at the Yosemite Valley Lodge. About the same food, little less expensive, less formal, not as beautiful. Only Starbuck's - Yosemite Valley Lodge.
Wawona Inn at the south exit of the valley is neat and historic but a long drive from the upper valley.
Lots of great hiking everywhere, marked and unmarked trails. Watch for Black Bears. We saw an ornery Mom and her cub on one hike. A large male killed her second cub, hence the ornery.
Have fun!

We are planning a hike in yosemite planning to start at glacier point, possibly towards senitel dome or taft point, to end up back at where we started, any reccomendations on the best trails or hikes to do?

Starting at Glacier Point your options are the 4 Mile Trail, the Panorama Trail or the Pohono Trail, neither of which are good round-trip options to end up back at Glacier Point without doing 8 or more miles.
If you want to do the 4 Mile Trail I would suggest reserving the Glacier Point Tour bus ticket, parking in the valley, riding the bus to Glacier Point and hiking down the 4 Mile Trail back to the valley.
If you are interested in the Sentinel Dome and Taft Point, the Sentinel Dome has its own parking area along Glacier Point Road a few miles before Glacier Point. There is a 5 mile loop that goes to Sentinel Dome, cuts across a section of the Pohono Trail and then up to Taft point and back to the parking lot, with minimal backtracking. It's possible to take the Pohono Trail in the other direction and get to Glacier Point but again that would be a much longer loop.
The Panorama Trail is about 13 miles down to the valley, so you could do something similar with the bus tour or turn back at some point.
I would recommend both of these options as a novice and I did them myself on a recent trip and enjoyed them very much, but of course if you are more hardcore there are a lot more options.
