Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We've been to Yosemite many times in the past, but never through the east entrance. Olmsted Point is your first chance on this route to see the valley. Definitely worth a stop on the way in to the park.

This was recommended to us by cashier at the Tuolumne Meadows trading post/ visitor center. So we decided to stop at Olmsted Point/ Overlook. Named after the famous Landscape Architect who designed Central Park in NYC. Great views , especially of Half Dome. Volunteer was at the look out and had a telescope so that we could see the hikers going up Half Dome, as if they were ants. Nice stop!

Our kids really enjoyed getting to play on the flat rock surfaces here at Olmsted Point. There are lots of chipmunks and squirrels that they enjoyed chasing around as well. We unfortunately didn't get to enjoy the views of Tenaya Lake and Half dome due to smoke from the creek fire, but the stop was still one of the highlights of our trip through the park.

This is a drive worth taking. From Olmsted Point, a pull off parking lot, you can look down the valley toward Yosemite Valley and see Half Dome in the far distance. This entire area is above 8,000 feet and offers a beautiful panoramic few of the surrounding mountains. To really get an even better visual experience you will have to leave the parking area and take a short hike to a bald granite dome. The trail starts at the steps that leave the parking area and continues through a small wooded area and then there is a short hike up to the top of the bald. The view from here is superior to the view from the parking lot and offers a pleasant spot to sit and relax while taking in some fresh air and sunshine. The mountain to the left of the bald rises to 10,000 feet and causes the wind to funnel through the valley below often reaching speeds of 25 miles an hour or more!

Named after the famous landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted (best known for designing Central Park NYC). From here you are north and east of the Yosemite Valley looking at Half Dome from the other side. There are trails along the rock and scrabble. A nice stop.

We drove the Tioga Road/pass in both directions and stopped both times at Olmstead Point - the view is just stunning, it's a really beautiful stop.

The second time, was near sunset, which we watched, and then waited... and saw the milky way - so many stars, just awesome.

After exhausting ourselves on a Verbal Falls Mist Trail Nevada Falls John Muir trail the day before our group of 9 really needed a break. Consider this a road that is only open summer and fall before the heavy snows come. we stopped at least 10 times I'm on the road sometimes if you feed from where we stopped before for a different view. Basically you ride the road check out of you, get back on the car and do it again. It took us about 2 hours to ride the entire road back way but 4 hours when we we kept stopping and eating, hiking. There are a few composting toilet outhouses along the way. You must stop at Olmsted point. Bring bug sprays for the Meadows. So amazing and worth the trip.

The only thing I can add to the other reviews here is to make sure you walk down from the parking lot about 200 yards because it gives much better perspectives. When we were there, 80 - 90% of the people stayed up near the cars and although a spectacular view from there, it is so much better just a little ways away.

Also, walk to the far north end of the parking lot to get a good view of Tenaya Lake surrounded by granite domes.

From this viewpoint you can see Tenaya lake to the left and also get a glimpse of Half Dome in the far distance on the right. Although these views can be seen from the car park, a short 10 minute walk down and across a low rock formation can get you better unobstructed views of Yosemite valley. Visited in the late afternoon and the place was beautiful.

My problems with review sites is you can read a restaurant review from someone who focuses only on the parking or host and not the food. The same goes with travel. One person gave this stop 3 stars because of fog.

NO NO. Dont review something that your experience is artificially impacting your review.

Now, my thoughts. You have to make this one of your stops along Tioga Road. You get to see Half Dome and the park from a different vantage point and get amazing photos along with the experience.

Again, like my comments elsewhere. Control your kids, the edge of a cliff is no place for your teenager to sit and take a picture let alone for you to go ten feet further thinking the "shot" is even better.

PEOPLE Use common sense.
