Very beautiful waterfall. I went with a Nicaraguan and he had a slightly difficult time finding the road to this waterfall from the highway. There were no other tourists at Cascada de la Luna the day of our visit. Actually, we only saw about 5 people in the area and limited staff. I would have been concerned if I was not with a Nicaraguan. We rented kayaks but there was a very limited area for kayaking. No zipline available during our visit. Could be due to offseason visit.…

Easy drive from Matagalpa along a well maintained highway. Off street, secure parking. Easy walk down to the beautiful waterfall. Well worth the drive and walk.

Cascada de la Luna is a breathtaking waterfall in the town of La Empresa, Matagalpa, and the accompanying adventure tour cooperative is run by local youth. The zip lining is thrilling, consisting of three separate rides across a lush valley by the three waterfalls. Staff were exceptional teachers, very patient and supportive, and accompanied us each step of the way. The true highlight of the visit was a guided hike through coffee fields and rolling hills with stunning views all leading to what can only be described as an oasis; a lagoon surrounded by towering rock walls and a giant cave where you can camp and swim. The hike requires physical fitness as there are a few areas that require bouldering with a significant drop off if a foot slipped. Nonetheless, the guides were tremendously helpful with suggestions of foot and hand placement as well as helping cross crevices with a reassuring hand. Definitely recommend this activity for anyone looking for an adventure off the beaten path. Very reasonably priced. By bus: you can take any bus going from Matagalpa to Waslala or La Dalia and get off at La Empresa (1hr 30min). Walk down the dirt road to the right of the basketball court: it will take you right to the river and tour building. …
