Hey, we hadn't done our homework, okay. We had planned and prepared for time in Alsace, France and for time in Rome, continuing to northeast Italy. But Corsica, not much - we had to travel from southeast France to Rome and we had a week to do it, . . . . . so . . . . . .... More

A visit to the Citadele is good to make it with a guide that will give a good explanation of the history of the place since the Roman period. The city in evidence today was founded as a fortress by and subsequently named after Boniface II of Tuscany in 828. Most of the citadel postdates the 9th century or is... More

The Citadel is huge and the views from it are incredible. Get a tour guide or you'll never understand the citadel and its history. Be prepared for a lot of walking, but it's worth it.

I arrived to Bonifacio on a motorcycle on the ferry from Sardinia. When I got off the ferry i thought I was on a movie set with the small natural harbour filled with boats, the streets lined with old houses and overlooking it all the Citadel. What a beautiful setting. Whow. Loving it.

Having a guide (from the "Office du tourisme") is a must have in order to understand the city. Nevertheless ; walking in the narrow streets is really nice. Only down : in low season a lot of shops and restaurants are closed.

While providing good hiking (steps down the mountain & back) opportunities, this old town is wonderful for just walking, eating in countless restaurants, cafes or browsing in limitless shops and boutiques. Wonderful!

What a wonderful journey through time in the well-restored citadel, clarifying a busy and ever changing history of what has happened over the millennia. Superb views in all directions around Bonifacio. So worth the hike up the hill and visiting the museum areas!

Surely one of the most spectacularly-sited towns in Europe, tottering on the edge of a tall, heavily undercut limestone cliff and with massive fortifications on the landward side. You have to take a boat excursion from the harbour to fully appreciate how close to the cliff edge the houses cling, or walk for a few minutes along the cliff path... More

We had s nice little tour of the area including the citadel. Great history and beautifully restored with fantastic views. Doesn't get much better.
