Stayed 2 nights at the Skaftafell camp ground. Price was very reasonable and it provided a good base to explore the region - not only the glacier and walking trails but also the iceberg lagoon only 40min drive away.

The hike to this glacier is very easy and takes about 30-40 minutes. It is relatively flat and the scenery is amazing. And once you get there, being that close to a glacier is mind-bogglingly awesome. When we went, there was hardly anyone so we...More

We just saw this huge Glacier from the main ring road 1 and decided to do a small detour. You can walk towards the glacier but not so close, unless you buy a glacier walk tour. Pretty cool unique sight.

Who would believe that ice could be so black? If you do one walk at Skaftafell, you must walk up to the glacier. The sheer scale of the glacial snout, the black ice, all the meltwater - just so much to take in.

This was a beautiful area with so much to see and do. Unfortunately were only able to spend a day here, but there was so much more yet to explore!

The hike to this glacier from the visitor center is fairly level and easy. It is definitely worth the effort. You are able to get very close to the glacier and the lagoon with icebergs. The black streaks from volcanic ash just add to the...More

We did this hike during a two-night stay in the Hofn area. We had done most of the major natural attractions in the Golden Circle / South Iceland the previous few days, so it was nice to go to a natural attraction without the tourist...More

This is about 40 minutes away from the visitor's center and well worth the walk. The glacier is amazing, the echoes of the cracks and ruptures thunderous. Quite a special place.

We traveled onto this glacier with "Glacier Guides", and into its deep blue ice cave. It was fantastic. Our guide was fabulous, and shared superb and fascinating information. The glacier is not a stagnant object, it will change each year, and the tunnels and caves...More
