Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A lovely, moated, privately-owned castle near Hengelo. Its history goes back to the 14th century. The estate is run by a foundation, some of the family who owns it still live there. We never had the time to see the interiors. It’s only guided yours it’s available for; maybe twice a day. Besides, that’ll be Dutch guide for a Dutch group, I don’t know how English will fit into it. So we visited only the gardens although „only” is perhaps a wrong word. The gardens are truly very nice and varied with plenty of ponds, brooks and other water features. The style is mostly English, although it is ornamental around the 19th century orangery. You can have tea at the orangery. Two hours to see the gardens should do. The entry costs 5€ per person plus 2€ for the car park. Drive up close to the barrier to open it by pressing the button. Pay at the automatic booth either by cash or card. The ticket will open the exit. Besides the castle there is also a 4 hectares estate with 9km long walking route to enjoy, so I read.

Beautiful estate with vast gardens to explore! I visited in April having taken the train from Amsterdam for the day as I wanted to explore the gardens and surrounding estate lands for the day. I contacted Baartman Taxis of Hengelo and they provided an affordable pickup/dropoff service from the train station to the Castle and other areas. The gardens were lovely! More greenery than floral, I saw swans, crooked trees, topiaries, and a herd of white deer! A great time to meander and reflect. The gift shop staff were friendly and spoke a bit of English and there was lots of history to discover.

It is a beautiful castle only it was not open before April. But we could walk in the castle area that is quite big. You can park the car in the parking area for € 2.

The house park of Kasteel Twickel is certainly worth a visit. A beautiful garden architecture provides for a variety between very cultivated and more wide and wild. The flower garden with the castle on the background provides beautiful pictures. When wandering through the park you can taste the classic grandeur and richness. Very nice!

We spent our Saturday afternoon at landgoed Twickel. It is a big area that is certianly beautiful to walk around. The castle as well as the farms are gorgeous. The gardens are closed in the winter but will open in April. The town is close by, at walking distance from the parking lot and the castle. We walked to the town and back for lunch.

Short walk from Delden train station. Quite enchantingly beautiful garden. Highly photogenic. The Orangerie is delightful for tea, coffee and cake (but no more than that). Interesting exhibition about castle bathroom furniture! Many great views around the gardens. Go when the moestuin / vegetable garden is open and buy their own fruit and veg. Good tools on sale in the store. Meant to stay for an hour; stayed for many hours.

Although the castle is not accessible to the public, we paid the €5 each entrance fee to visit the gardens and have better views of the castle. The orangeries is well worth a visit for coffee and cake, served by friendly staff.

Very nice to have a longer walk in the estate (for free) or in the gardens of the castle. Especially in spring.
