This walk is a little tougher than Roy’s Peak , but certainly worth it as it gives a very different perspective of Wanaka and Hawea. Truly beautiful .

Did the track in June 2018 and plan to re-do it on a completely clear day sometime as I seldom got a completely clear view and the Wanaka side was completely obscured by cloud. As a result of that, and the fact that there was...More

Stunning views the whole way up and at the top! I would pack 2+ water bottles per person. Ate quite a bit too. It was just a really extreme uphill climb so you’re exhausted at the top. We did it in regular running shoes and...More

This was one of the most challenging hikes we’ve done. There are no facilities so come prepared. We brought a bottle of water and 4 energy bars each which was enough on a cold day. Would need more water in warmer weather. The weather was...More

This would have to be one of the best walks in the Wanaka region. We wisely chose this track over Roys peak as we had heard that RP is ridiculously congested these days. It's not long on the climb up before Lake Hawea comes into...More

We were recommended this hike over Roy's Peak from a friend who had done both. The ascent was steep and fairly unrelenting for the initial 2 hours, however, once reaching the saddle, the final 30-40 mins were fine! Views at the top were spectacular; fabulous...More

This is a wonderful hike, more challenging than Roys Peak. The climb is about 1000m, and the distance is about 7km. It took us 2 1/2 hours to get to the top, but I think a more leisurely pace would make it more enjoyable! I...More

My daughter had done this track and Roy’s Peak and recommended we do Isthmus Peak. She was right. Isthmus has more variety of track with some flat grass areas. It is however 2 1/2 hour up. Bring layers because it gets windy and cool at...More

Hike is quiet tough and you really have to push yourself to reach the top. After about 1.5hrs of trek every turn will look like you have made it to the top too soon and you will feel excited. But it will take roughly 3...More

As others have said...it's quite a workout! Very steep and relentless...it just, keeps, going. Allow three hours for the climb up if you're really fit, 3.5 if you are in good shape. We began our climb at 2:00pm...this left us squarely in the sun with...More
