This was a pretty easy walk up to the top of mount iron. We did this hike on our last morning to get some exercise before a long car ride. Dogs and kids were all around. I don't think bikes are allowed. Free car park at the base. You walk right by puzzle world if you plan to go there... More

It was a little steeper than we had probably anticipated but it's not strenuous - we were up and down in less than an hour. The views of the Wanaka township, lake and the alps in the background are great and well worth the walk up. Great free activity before exploring more of what Wanaka has to offer.

A must for travelers. Not too hard or long and great views from the top. Take your dog if you have one. My kids have also done it and enjoyed it.

We did the return walk in 2 hours. We took it slow as we are not as fit as we thought we were. Steep hills but resting often we made it. Beautiful photo opportunities along the way and at the top. Suggest you take a bottle of water as its thirsty work.

Mount Iron was a great way to spend a couple of free hours. It's a short walk but certainly gets your heart pumping faster with the relatively steep-ish ascent. The views are great and there are some nice seating areas at the top of Mt Iron if you want to take a packed lunch!

Mt Iron is a 'must walk' for visitors to Wanaka, giving fantastic "birds eye" views from the top which gives an overall perspective of the Town and Surrounds. Easily managed by people of average fitness but the less fit, may need to allow extra time, take stops and soak up the view from the well positioned seats. Remember to take... More
