Loved Wanaka because it is so beautiful, stunning actually. It has a relaxed vibe and a beautiful lake lined with weeping willow trees, and a snow capped mountain backdrop. Go to the edge of the pier and you will see large fish and eels - fantastic. Eat lunch on the foreshore. A lot of people just pass through and think... More

This area is the quintessential magic of NZ. I see Donegal is voted the coolest destination in the world. Coming from Ireland, NZ is a mirror image in the southern hemisphere, but these mountains are snow capped and the whole area is a fabulous distillation of our blue planet. Definitely, we need to look after our wonderful home.

Pretty town, very nice lake side promenade. The best is a road ( last part of it gravelled ) deep into the mountains. Great views.

Wanaka is located on beautiful Lake Wanaka with a backdrop of gorgeous mountains. Where Arrowtown is like a historic boutique village, Wanaka is more like a larger seaside tourist town. There are modern cafes and bars as well as shopping and souvenir shops. There are lots of local activities as well. It is popular and parking can be challenging but... More

My partner and I stayed at Wanaka for 3 nights in November 2016. We wish we had stayed longer. Its a great little town. Amazing landscapes, with beautiful hikes close by. We ate at a few places, and found the food and service great as well.

We visited the Wanaka area and stayed there for 5 days. Lots of things to do. Plenty of choices for restaraunts. Parking readily available this time of year. Stayed at the Pines Resort, where there were fabulous views

We loved Lake Wanaka it is beautiful and a nice town. We walked along the lakeside to waterfall creek, there are various places you can visit walking or driving. Gendhu Bay was another place we drove too lovely scenery everwhere. The Ice cream in this area was wonderful (Boysenberry) was the one we loved

We only stayed one night, but it was a great little place to stay and relax. A good variety of restaurants to choose from and heaps of walks and adventure activities. The views of the lake and mountains from the main street were just as good if not better than Queenstown. Much quieter than Queenstown as well, with still a... More

A town with all the friendly people and all the activities to participate. When weather is not good for outdoor, we have lots of indoors galleries and places like puzzling world and museum to keep us busy for the day. Of cause, the lovely lakes are beautiful at all time especially with the snow cap mountain as background. You will... More
