Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Rest and relaxation are part of having a holiday in Wanaka. It also has trendy cafes and Markets on Sunday. Its not far from Queenstown and the trip to Wanaka from Queenstown is "Priceless in itself". Beautiful Lake and "that Wanaka Tree" are only part of what you will experience.

Wanaka is relatively a small town with the two main lakes. The town is nice and safe. There is New World Supermarket. The tourist information center is centrally located and the staff was helpful and knowledgeable. The weather is cold in morning and hot in the summer. The main activity is hiking.

Such a beautiful place to visit. Very scenic and heaps of activities to keep the whole family busy. Have really enjoyed our stay here. Our only warning is to be careful when visiting the walking trails. Not enough parking spaces. So if you park off the road you get a parking ticket. The council need to put more parking spots around apparently they are vicious with booking people.

Wanaka was such a cool place to visit, we found that there was so much going on. We spent the day there and it was super busy, full of people wandering about, laying on the beach, walking, exercising etc. Loads of tourists in cars, camper-vans etc. Good amount of car parks specifically marked for camper vans and larger vehicles. The day we were there was the annual A&P show(agricultural and pastoral) so it was busier than normal. We parked a bit further out from the main town and walked 15 mins. Amazing amount of cafes, shops and craft beer pubs. Very clean and tidy township with everywhere well sign posted. Caters very well for the tourists. So much to see and do you need a good few days here to appreciate this beautiful place.

There is something special about Wanaka. The beautiful lake and that little famous tree that wins everyone's hearts.
Wanaka is only 1 hour from Queenstown and the drive over the Cadrona Ranges is amazing.
Little trendy cafes and boutique gift shops are buzzing and it's great to go the the markets as well.
Little piece of New Zealand paradise.

Wanaka, a resort town on New Zealand's South Island, is set on the southern end of its namesake lake with views of snowcapped mountains. I think this is probably an underrated place with neighboring Queenstown garnering all the attention. Wanaka has a lot of things going for it starting with the incredible Lake Wanaka and the famous solo tree. It has bustling town center with a great food truck scene. Lots of activities for kids. And last but not the least the Wanaka. Transport and Toy museum (an absolute gem)

We were scheduled to stay in Queenstown with our campervan but decided to relocate to Wanaka and are so pleased we did. The time we spent here reminded us how much there is to do outdoors that is accessible to all ages. We are already planning our next trip back.

Magnificent settings. Centre is small, along the lake, with many good bars and restaurant but never overcrowded. And no hordes of hit-and-run tourists. Fantastic panoramas, hikes and all the adventures you may wish.

Only stayed one night, but wished we had stayed longer. If there was a town on the Island which we would want to live in, we think this would have been the one. HInt - climb the Iron mountain for a great view of the town, Lake and area.

Wanaka in May, still got the picturesque Autumn toning's. You can do as much or as little as you want. Hard hikes or easy strolling tracks. The original shopping centre is still vibrant with the big stores going out of town. A lot of good eateries to choose from.
