Is it tough? Yes. Will you sweat? Oh yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely. We started our hike at 6 AM in the morning, it was still quite dark so we were lucky enough to watch the sunrise while going up the mountain. It was...More

Completed at end of May it is a 16km round trip up a 1500m summit. We started the climb at 0740 and made the summit by 1000. It is a steep climb and many we passed seemed to struggle. Good footwear is advised as on...More

We were advised by a friend to visit this on our J's&C's NZ'18 tour. They had a point. Superb treck up, amazing views both at the lookout and at the top (though if you're knackered by the time you reach the lookout don't worry too...More

It was a sunny day! Recommended to go with at least a friend so that you both could encourage each other to continue trekking and reach the peak. It promised with stunning view of Wanaka once you reach the Roys Peak Lookout or continue trekking...More

This was one of the most challenging, yet most rewarding of all the hikes we did in NZ! It's basically steep dirt path switchbacks the entire hike. There is hardly any shade so you are completely exposed for the entire hike. Definitely bring lots of...More

Overall, we took a 5 hours return hike at Roy's Peak. Some aspects of the track are quite steep and challenging but the views at the top is well worth it! One good tip is to start the hike early as we noticed by mid...More

We took 6.5 hours to complete the whole hike (up and down). Super challenging because the route up is very very steep! We were rewarded with a breathtaking view of Wanaka. Something I would only do once because it's just too tiring! Would be great...More

I would say it's medium level track - some parts are quite steep. Swing bridge is great for photos and the glacier views are pretty. You have to go over a lot of fords to get to the car park so only go if its...More

I cannot recommend this hike enough. It isn't easy but it is doable, there were people of all abilities on the track when I was there. If you get there early, and take short but frequent breaks I'm confident it will be fine... More
