Cedre Gouraud is literally a cedars forest located in the surroundings of Azrou, a town near Ifrane, which is located about 75km to the South of Fez, the main city in the region. Here you can walk around the forest and see beautiful views. The most important sightseeing is seeing local monkeys, which id a very good activity for all family, especially children. I came here with my 4 years daughter and she enjoy walking and running in the forest. Also when she was near monkeys she sometimes enjoyed a lot giving food them and she was sometimes afraid, because monkeys screamed and they stole food, especially peanuts. Pitifully the zone is full of garbage and there are too much families, also monkeys may have disease rage, so you have to be careful with them. A good, but improvable experience.

We were incredibly fortunate at the time of our visit because we seemed to have the entire place to ourselves.
Cèdre Gourand is situated close-by to the town of Ifrane. We were told about the place by a very friendly Policeman on a traffic point.
Apart from the nature and the beautiful scenery, the main attraction is the very very old Cedar tree. Unfortunately the tree isn’t as happy as it once was, owing to the change in climatic conditions. The Cedar tree enjoys the high altitude and the snow, the latter being not as abundant as it once was. This has meant that the tree doesn’t have the green leaves it once did. It is still impressive, even in its current state.
Near to the tree are stall holders selling all manner of crafts. The stall holders are friendly and will happily tell you the history of the place.
There is also horse riding and plenty of opportunities to wander through the beautiful forests.
I believe my experience of this area was so positive because of the time of year and lack of visitors. The place was also clean and tidy, which was a refreshing change. I imagine that at other times and with lots more visitors the experience is very different and far less positive.

There are lots of reiviews on here talking about feeding the monkeys... This is bad for the monkeys! You should not do it.
There is growing scientific evidence of the damage this is doing to this endangered species. Please visit the forest, watch but don't feed the monkeys. They have all the food they need to survive naturally.
Feeding them is making them obese, aggressive and vulnerable to poaching through habituation to human contact.
If you're interested in this issue there a number of scientific publications available, just search Google for details on the problems associated with feeding wild animals.
Watching wildlife is great, feeding wildlife is bad for wildlife.

The cedar is big and dead, carved with graffiti and surrounded by hawkers with little stalls and offering horseback rides, and begging macaques. But if you walk into the woods and follow the horse track, it leads through the open woods full of macaques to a beautiful meadow with sheep and cattle and behind it a hill with stunning views of the area. Allow an hour and a half or so for a leisurely ramble and you won't regret it.

It is amazing to see these huge cedre tree and the nice parfum!! the located forest on the montain offers a fantastic landscape view, fresh air and quite moment to relax.

recommended if you like trekking and good shades! there are some monkeys also in this area, so you will have the chance to get some nice pics as well !

The cedre Gouraud is sign posted and a totally silly tree to go see. BUT, the 8-10 kilometer drive in the area is full of stunningly beautiful trees. If you've not seen monkeys, you can see them near the totally dead tree. We laughed out loud at this tourist come-on; yet the cedar tree forests around Azrou are worth the visit.

Cedre Gouraud is dominated by the oldest tree in Morocco, according to our driver as we approached the site. It's an impressive sight, to be sure, and even more exciting as one drives into the car park and sees the monkey population running around freely. They are the only African primate population (aside from humans) north of the Sahara Desert, and the only macaque population outside of Asia, which provides an added treat.
If you do decide to purchase a bag of peanuts for the monkeys, and a previous reviewer has provided an excellent insight as to why this may not be the best idea, be very careful with it. One member of our party bought one, and was walking towards the forest with it when a single monkey snatched it out of her hand and ran up a tree with it. As our driver said: if someone else pickpockets you, I can get it back, but if a monkey pickpockets you, there is no way.
The forest is pleasant to walk in, and the monkeys are fun to interact with, but there is one thing that spoiled it: the men leading horses around trying to persuade you to have a photo on them. We were previously warned by our driver that they would say "ten dirham, just one photo!" Then ask for 100 as soon as you stepped off the horse. What made it worse was that they did not seem to accept a polite no, and even attempted to physically drag some of us onto their horses. This is the only part that spoiled an otherwise great experience for us.

Our whole family (even the teenagers) enjoyed interacting with the Macaque Monkeys. You can buy a bag of peanuts for 5 dirham or just give them a drink of water . They know how to sip out of a water bottle. The monkeys were not afraid to come up close. Horse rides are also available.

The beauty of nature destroyed by humans trying to profit from wild animals and plants. DO NOT FEED THE MONKEYS! The plastic bags the sellers give you the end up all over the forest and I saw a monkey eating the plastic bag because it tastes of nuts. You can also give disease to the monkeys. Their population is declining ! They feed them so close to the road. All the monkeys are crossing a very fast road with no warning signs and I saw saw a mother monkey carrying it's bleeding and dead baby up a tree. Just awful destruction of nature here. Please Moroccan government do something to reduce the destruction of your once beautiful country as I don't know if I can return here as a tourist. I've never seen so much plastic waste and also animal cruelty as here. Please change this. it's in your power.
