- Arjun VermaNew Delhi, India159 contributionsIt is a matter of good fortune for me to attend the Aarti of Maa Ganga Maiya.During Maa Ganga's Aarti, the atmosphere there was worth seeing, everyone was praying. With the sound of hymns of Mother Ganga all around, it seemed as if you had truly reached heaven. There is still a lot of improvement to be done in the management there, the most important thing for the devotees is to pay attention to cleanliness. Despite all this, lack of cleanliness is not a good thingVisited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 10 October 2023

- Pankaj P13 contributionsEvening aarti as a VIPAttended the evening aarti, got a guide to arrange VIP seating for Rs3000, for the family of 5. This was a front row seats right in front of the aarti, there were more VIPs, so I guess visitors can be squeezed in if willing to pay, may not get a front row seat but still better that watching from the other side of the bank. Watching from the other side of the bank is definately a better view but you will have to come early to get decent seats or standing and I believe it can get crowded and uncomfortable. Stayed a few kms away and came back early morning for a walk, beautiful walk, place was clean and begger's did not bother us. January is cold, so be prepared. Enjoyed that early morning walk, having street breakfast.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 January 2024

Especially if you do the ganga snan (holy dip) here. - Santhosh BHyderabad, India24 contributionsMesmerising Experience - Practical Tips are includedGanga Aarti happens at "Harki Pauri" (locally pronounced as "Harkipodi"), which is the most auspicious place in Haridwar. This place consists of temple for Ganga Devi, Raja Bhagirath, Shiva, Mahalakshmi in the banks of Ganga River. Basically, all these temples are very small in size and compact. Both the banks have steps ("Ghat") wherein devotees sit and watch Aarti. Puja starts at 6:00 PM daily evening with Vedic hyms by pandits. By 6:30 PM, vedic pandits leave that place and taken over by temple priests. They start performing aarti which goes on till 6:45 PM. After that devotees take bath once again in river. 1. Temple entrance has "Shoe / Chappal Storage Stand" which will get filled up by 5:30PM. Tip: They are selling plastic bag for Rs 10 near the entrance. You can keep all your shoes / chappals and handover to storage counter by 5:15 PM itself. In case, you are staying at lodges nearby, just leave those in room itself. 2. Best place to watch aarti is from opposite side bank of temple. There is a golden coloured clock tower in a concrete platform which is opposite side of temple. Watching from that ghat is more convenient. 3. Harki pauri is at a narrow road. So cars are not allowed. Only share auto / rickshaw. We were staying at Bheemgoda Parking ("No entry barrier" ) from there we took share auto. Overall, mesmerising experience.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 April 2024

- Swapnil LahotiPanvel, India96 contributionsA Soul-Stirring Experience at the Morning Ganga Aarti in Haridwar !!!Attending the morning Ganga Aarti in Haridwar was one of the most profound experiences of my life. As the first rays of sunlight bathed the Ghats in a golden hue, the atmosphere was charged with anticipation and reverence. The ritual began with the sound of bells and chanting, creating a serene yet vibrant ambiance. Witnessing the priests perform the aarti with such devotion was mesmerizing. The flames danced in the morning breeze, reflecting in the sacred waters of the Ganges, while the scent of incense filled the air. What struck me most was the sense of community and spirituality. People from all walks of life gathered to pay their respects, creating a powerful feeling of unity and devotion. It was a reminder of the timeless bond we share with nature and the divine. The visuals were stunning—the combination of the flowing river, the colorful offerings of flowers and diyas, and the backdrop of the mountains made for a truly enchanting setting. I found myself completely immersed in the moment, captivated by the beauty and serenity of it all. Overall, the morning Ganga Aarti in Haridwar is a must-see for anyone visiting the region. It’s not just a ritual; it’s an experience that touches the soul and leaves a lasting impression. I left feeling rejuvenated and grateful, and I can’t wait to return!Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten 30 September 2024

The aarti is performed at the sunset and not at a specific time of the day. We ran into a guide who patched us onto a brahmin. It's kind of a trap where they set you up to cough up handsome money for the short pooja they perform which wasn't anything special. It's just money making on unassuming tourists. Beware of such fake guides and pundits. Anyways the aarti was blissful and divine.

To be honest I was expecting a peaceful spiritual experience but the commercialization of the place spoiled everything for us. Not only do street-vendors constantly bug you to buy stuff but also local pandits start persuading you to offer various puja. We soon got tired saying No like fifty times in an hour. Not only that just before and after the aarati is performed temple authority people started insisting the visitors to give some offerings for the aarati. We decided to buy some tiny flower boats and float them in the river just to offer some prayers from ourselves....there also some pandit caught us and started chanting some mantras....we obviously couldn't say no to him. Then later on he collected offerings from each one of us and would not agree to take lesser amount. I feel when people go to visit temple and all they should be able to do it peacefully but some money-minded people totally spoils the peace. Though the Haridwar Ganga aarati is famous, I personally enjoyed more the Ganga aarati of Rishikesh.....it was far less crowded, very peaceful and not at all commercialized.

Evening Aarti time was 7:15pm in summers (in May). Due to auspicious day of Somvati Amavasya, thousands of devotees were walking towards Har ki Pauri to have a glimpse of Ganga Aarti. Local conveyance was blocked several km away by administration. We have to walk more than 3.5km to reach here. Lastly we entered the Har Ki Pauri and sit there. It was 45min wait to start the Aarti. It is one of the best in India, 2nd to Kashi Aarti in my view. I will advise to reach here at least one hour before on normal days and more than two hours on Purnima and Other auspicious days. Keep your camera ready for some mesmerizing pictures of Maa Ganga, Aarti pots, of temples there and saints at the ghats.

As with other reviewers I was hoping for a spiritual experience however this place in kid with all of Haridwar is a dirty dismal money grabbing fake. The Ganges here is treated like a sewer so much for it being a holy river. Blaring shrill piped din and some people wafting around some fire..I did get offered one of the lotus leaves with a tealight on it to let loose in the Ganges, whilst I expect to pay you are told that any contribution is voluntary until you accept and then the demand was for 5000 rupees...he got 200. Give all of Haridwar a miss and go 15 miles up stream to Rishikesh where the Ganges is cleaner and the views spectacular.

The evening aarti is also called the Maha Aarti and is conducted every day. It is one of the most popular and well-attended rituals of the town. The Maha Aarti is performed by chanting bhajans in praise of the lord and is celebrated by beating electrifying drums and rhythmic bells. Totally Divine.

It is always awesome to be at Ganga Aarti. For all humans Ganga Aarti is most pious and auspicious event in Haridwar. Due to winters Aarti stared at 5:30pm sharp. It was not much crowded at Har ki Pauri, but still devotees throng around the Aarti place at Aarti time. We recite the Aarti, viewed it from near, have taken Aarti later. It was a mesmerizing devotional experience. Last time we came here at a festival, that was very very crowded. One should come up to one hour early to have a good seat at Aarti point.

Well you cannot book online. But you really donot need to book as ganga aarti is conducted on ganga river ghat which are huge and spacious. Best way to watch it is to go a bit early and sit there. Or go to opposite side and sit there. Ganga aarti is all about the atmosphere there and you can enjoy it by sitting there.

please suggest me some good hotel/ Dharamsala (name) near Haridwar railway station
Written 23 October 2017
There are standard hotels near railway station but it all depends upon your budget. I would suggest please do not stay in any Dharamshala if you wish to maintain a particular standard. Haridwar is enjoyable many things to see. Some temples are good but be careful from those Pandyas and Pandits. At many places / temples people do not observe line discipline but it appears to be the culture of this country unfortunately. If you can tolerate such things Haridwar has beautiful places to visit. All d best and enjoy your trip
