Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Sidlakang Negros or Eastern Negros is composed of several small building modules featuring the different provinces of Dumaguete, a main showroom, an open stage and the provincial tourism office. This was conceived to be a year-long permanent venue for trade, tourism & cultural activities. Sadly, only 1-2 provincial modules were open when we went there. We just walked around the complex before going to the main showroom displaying /selling local arts & crafts. We also visited the next door provincial tourism office and was ably assisted by this charming lady, Maritoni, who was very very helpful in suggesting what places to see in Dgte. We appreciated her giving us her personal inputs which served us our guide during our 5-day stay.
TIP- for total entertainment. & appreciation of this area, find out when there will be an event here

Nothing to see or do here, except shop at the tiny souvenir shop, as it only opens during the festival Negrenses hold in October.

The hot springs' pools are a favorite with the locals. There are three pools to choose from plus a cold water pool. Easy to get there on a jipney, but going back to Dumaguete you need to ride on the back of a motorcycle. Just by luck there was mountain bike racing that day.

Good for a visit, couple of hours of entertainment and nighttime contests. Singing and dancing. Good family outing.

This area has a lot of huts which are filled with the different towns goods during the Buglasan Festival. It has a nice gift shop and the Negros Oriental Tourism Office is also located here.

Sidlakang Negros was our first destination. We wanted to know what Negros Oriental can offer to tourists especially foreigners. The booths their were just display of things that you can see around the city too. There were booths that were even close.

We were able to see and learn a few things about Negros and its products and tourist destinations. Negros has a rich culture and beautiful scenery.

The management of Sidlakang Negros could to more than just putting everything in one booth with people who don't seem to like talking to a foreigner.

Clustered hut-like structures representing each town of Negros Oriental. Somewhat like a mini "Nayong Pilipino". Supposed to be showcasing their culture and products. Sadly they were all empty and not maintained. We were told that they open only during the Buglasan festivities in October where the different towns meet for various competitions.

Before we visited this place, I thought it was more than just a souvenir shop. What I have in mind is a place that showcases what Negros has to offer aside from souvenirs, however, when we arrived at the place, I was quite surprised that it was just a small place and not much is seen inside. I bought 2 souvenir shirts the price for white shirt costs P 110 , the colored one costs P 140. A wooden key chain costs P 70, a ref magnet also cost P 70 but to my dismay, when I went to Rizal Blvd, I was able to buy a key chain and ref magnet for only P 20 each.

I hope on my next visit, I can find something that will give me a glimpse of Negros aside from the souvenirs. They should also make this place attractive to tourists.

When it was opened a few years back, it was intended to be a nice showcase of the region. Now you can visit it during the Buglasan week, where people sell wood on strings, calling it art, and rice in banana leaves, raving about it like it would be Gordon Ramsey's Wellington.
The rest of the year it is basically dead.
Take as an example the cultural village in Kuta Kinabalu. It shows perfectly how to make an interesting place for the cultural heritage.
Sad to see another wasted chance...

But not all that impressive.
Hard to place my finger on it, but if you want something authentic special from the region, seek out the great stone, coral and seashell souvenirs in Bacong at the local stoneworking art shop. They are colorful, varied in size and style, and sure to please every decorative taste in your home wherever you live on the globe. Much nicer that yet another 'warrior spear' leaning against your living-room wall or a drawn-looking face on the end of a long spoon collecting dust in your home.
