Overview
More
The sumptuous Chateau-Abbaye de Cassan rises from the midst of vineyards and olive groves. A modest monastic retreat which became a powerful royal priory then a sumptuous princely dwelling, the castle houses a vast Romanesque church (XIIth cen.) And an abbey palace (XVIIIth cen.), Warranting the name of the little Versailles of Languedoc. Here the past breathes through the coolness of the secular stonework. This historical site is a genuine showcase for a number of cultural events. In 2017, the individual visit of the site is closed due to renovations of the main roof

At an unimposing place between two villages you'll find the imposant Chateau - unfortunately closed at the day of our visit, but you can go surround the walls and have amazing views on an impressive and cultural important building

What a beautiful Chateau this is! Well, it used to be. To be honest, it's in a bad way. There is a lot left to do in the way of renovations to this place and of course, tourists, such as us, help the project out....More

We turned up firstly at 11am, too early! Plus it was raining. Returned at 2pm, with my broken French and the young woman's broken English we established the deal of 11 € for entrance and a bottle of wine! great value. We spent the next...More

We visited this chateau. It was very interesting with much history.. As medieval necropolis , staging post on the camino, and 17th century bishops palace. The chapel was breathtaking. The ground floor rooms and gardens were full of character. We were late for an English...More

We loved this chateau and had a lovely tour guide. The price is very reasonable and includes a bottle of wine. Well worth a trip!

Country estate just outside city limits of Roujan. Showing it's age. Aggressive action by a historical society to add more period furniture in the rooms, spuce up the grounds with plantings and flowers, have some tablets posted throughout explaining history (11th century!) and you've got...More

Went to the chateau on the weekend of the 'English' market. It was a good show on a cold November day. However the Chateau looked a lovely building to explore on a summers day. The star of the chateau has to be the chapel, very...More

Despite all the signs this is only open for a few days each week and we were disappointed that it was not open when we turned up (a Saturday) What we could seen from the outside suggest it is worth a visit so maybe we...More

A very impressive building with an atmospheric feel, set in a lovely location. The chapel is interesting. Close to the road, it is worth stopping for a look around.
