Hilltop life in Tuscany
Sep 2019
W spent two weeks in a B & B and chose Barberino Val d'Elsa as it is midway between Siena and Florence, as well as other towns in Tuscany. We had a lovely time, and found our favourite restaurant in the piazza in front of the church. While we were there a medieval festival was held with a re-enactment of the battle between Florence and Siena, performed by citizens of the Commune. A beautiful place and very relaxing indeed.

Typical Toscane village
Sep 2019
Traveling regular in Toscane you can see the real Toscane characteristics however this part of Toscane is one of the most beautiful pearls of the region, including the scenery, fields, vineyards and the impressive valley. Walk, bike, drive, it's great.

The Treasure of Tuscany
Sep 2019 • Couples
From the first glimpse of Romitorio di Serelle, sitting proudly amongst Sangiovese vines, to the day we said goodbye, a week later, we enjoyed a superb stay. A big thanks to the hospitality of Marco, Lorella and Roberto. Purchased in 1998 as a run down property they have tastefully restored and renovated it creating 12-14 individual apartments. The accommodation is well appointed and comfortable.
Each apartment has its own private seating and dining area, and self catering facilities. We took advantage of this. Breakfast and dinner are offered and we dined twice .... each time enjoying good quality meals and value for money.
Magnificent views of the surrounding landscape are to be enjoyed with wine in hand. A beautiful swimming pool and pool side, a sitting area and indoor lounge complete the comfortable facilities.
A complimentary wine tasting with local wine buff Pietro was a bonus and should you run out of wine, you can purchase more on site! We did! By the way, Wi Fi is available in case you insist on communicating with the outside world.
A couple of hours from Florence, this property is a good location for visiting the hilltop towns such as San Gimignano and Siena as well as the quaint villages including Castellina in Chianti and Radda in Chianti. We took full advantage of this during our stay and had no difficulty filling in our week.
This is a very good quality property and extremely well run. If I were to suggest a few minor improvements, I would provide a small starter pack (washing up liquid, tea and coffee bags, sugar) and some board games for guests in the indoor lounge area.
Would we return? ....... certainly! ........just “perfetto”!!!!!!

We stayed in the Villa Castrum and spent time wandering about the countryside watching grapes being picked, tasting wine and olive oil and basking in the fabulous Tuscan sun!

Want to get away from the crowds of Italy's tourist strips and enjoy a real piece of Italia then this place fits the brief! Bonus of magnificent views and lovely people and one of the nicest old villages I've come across on my three trips to Tuscana.

A week in Tuscany
Sep 2017
This is the kind of place you read about in novels about Tuscany. A great town with all the characteristics that make you write home about. Great people, fantastic restaurants and close to so many other sights in Italy. We rented a wonderful flat on VRBO and we lived like kings. The bakery was alive early every morning making waking up to fresh baked breads and pastries exciting. Do not hesitate to book a place in Barberino Val d'Elsa. Go see Guilian at Cafe Bijou.

Worth a visit in the area. Super playground for kids with variety slides, climbing things which our toddler loved, there is a bar hex you playground as well as coop if you need to shop at same time! Lovely church, pop in and see the view from the back! Amazing and friendly butcher as well as a couple of nice bakeries and restaurants.
