Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

While the place is modern and does have some interesting display and good
audio video guide it felt as if it is just "not enough". The place is very small and
the whole visit will take you less than 30 minutes.
If you around and like carpets - yes give it your time

This town was one we encountered while driving. We didn't know what to expect though I had written down that they had a rug identity. Virtually no tourists were here when we wandered the streets and the Interpretive Center was the only place where we found a young lady who spoke English. She helped us navigate and told us we should tour the building. We did and for being in such a "off the beaten path" destination, we found the displays and history in the Center extremely well done.
One must appreciate rug making or at the very least, have a curiosity to learn about the process and designs. Loved it!

I went in as a last minute thing with my mum as this isn't really my cup of tea and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it! The rugs/arraiolos on display are amazing and the quality and detail is excellent. There were rugs from all eras and some really rare pieces shown. The history is very well detailed and there were plenty of examples of the process available to see. There were also two ladies practicing the craft and were very helpful to my mum with tips and advice for arriaolo rug making (which my mum practices!)
So, in all it is a place I would recommend even if you are not into it. Visually and historically it is well worth the 1€ entry fee.
(Apart from the works on exhibit, the interior of the building is a modern design beauty).

Worth a stop with a very small entry fee if you’re in the area. The tapestries are amazing and there was an actual crafts person there working on a rug.

This is a very interesting little museum. It was quite hard to find and after driving around the very narrow streets for quite a long time we parked in an area labelled parque3 and walked. But it did mean we got to see a roundabout with scissors and a ball of wool with the castle remains behind. But back to the museum, just 1 Euro entrance per person, explanations on weaving and a lady actually doing a rug. Very good. There are some shops in the little town where you can buy them, but it the rugs are expensive and some handicraft shops. Good town to visit.

A must see when one is in the area. An easy way to learn about the Arraiolos rugs’ history and traditions. The exhibition has amazing antique Arraiolos rugs. Worth to visit and it does not take more than 1 hour.

Our GPS didn't know the address. We couldn't find any signs to lead us there. The phone wanted to take us the wrong way on tiny streets. After going in circles for nearly half an hour, we gave up and went to lunch.

The Tapetes de Arraiolos - Centro Interpretativo, located in the heart of Arriaolos, documents the history of Arriaolos as a an important center for the manufacture of rugs and tapestries from the time of the Moors through the late 19th century. This modern yet low-key museum is well worth a visit. The space, a former hospital, has been nicely renovated. The exhibits have been carefully curated and are labelled in English as well as Portuguese

A lovely Alentejo town with a mission: to keep the embroidered rug-making tradition alive and to promote them to new audiences. This was marked in 2013 by the opening of the public Interpretative Centre in Arraiolos. It contains priceless piece of work ranging from religious vestments to delicate nativity pieces to ancient and modern rugs. A history of wool production, dyeing and rug making, accompanied by old photos, is fascinating. Look out for the glass panelled floor in one of the the rooms......
