Our visit to Belmonte included a stop at the Synagogue where we met several members of the community who seemed genuinely happy to greet visitors to their community. The synagogue is active and has various weekly activities for the Annucim and other Jews of Portugal...More

We were disappointed that the "real" museum was closed for renovations when we went in April. However, there Is a small "satellite" type site where a few of the Jewish artifacts can be seen. It's small, but you can still see some of the artifacts...More

The Jewish history of Belmonte is pretty amazing. The current synagogue is a modern one donated by charity to cherish the old Jewish community that existed in Belmonte

The "new" synagogue in Belmonte was built with the generous assistance of Sephardic benefactors. Seating is in keeping with the Sephardic tradition and the sanctuary's appointments are impressive. The Jewish community is very proud of their historic heritage and are making their way back to...More

Our Globus tour guide had arranged a tour, but the guide never showed up. Guide says if the woman feels like coming out she does and if not, well....check with the synagogue itself and maybe they can help you.
