Couldn't recommend Martin and Solent Sail more! We have just had a fantastic long weekend sailing! Wow what an adventure!!

My husband and I were at first both pretty hesitant at the idea of walking into the unknown and mingling with people we hadn't met before. But we took the plunge and went ahead with it, and are now so pleased we did!
Martin is a great host and quickly put us all at ease, he was warm and welcoming and helped bond our group together quickly. We all got on really well, as we shared an unforgettable experience together, where there were laughs a plenty.

We went on the 4 day Easter Cruise (which should be renamed the Gourmet Food + Sailing tour!). Weather wasn't viable for the intended route across the Channel thanks to a storm in the days prior, so we were glad when Martin suggested an alternative smoother passage which saw us travel East from Portsmouth, to Chichester, then onto Brighton, then back West across to the Isle of Wight, and then back to Portsmouth.

Days were spent pulling together as a team to help make passage plans, take turns on the helm, and setting and trimming sails, in addition to making and sharing lunches together (soup and home made bread one day were delicious!). Then come the evenings, we enjoyed well earned dinner and drinks, where again we had some brilliant food, in some fantastic local pubs, and onboard INXSA. One night we had an amazing Fish Pie (courtesy of Martin) followed by a home made Apple Crumble (courtesy of another of our party), which were simply a treat!. In addition to really getting a great authentic experience of life onboard, a real bonus to the sailing trip, was the culinary experience.

Martin was a qualified RYA instructor, so in addition to being in very competent hands, he was very generous with his time and experience, and kindly provided lots of training and guidance to those of us that were keen to develop our skills. It was a brilliant way for us to learn so much in an informal setting, while also just enjoying the passages. Martin's cool calm and relaxed style was brilliant! We also had a chance to sail in multiple different sea states and wind conditions, on all points of sail, and even got to use the full sail wardrobe, using the Code Zero and the beautiful Spinnaker in some glorious downwind sailing.

One other thing to note is that the opportunity to spend time on a Catamaran is absolute gold, and Solent Sail is one of the few, if not the only business on the Solent offering this sort of opportunity (as far as we are aware). INXSA is a modern luxury 40ft Nautiteck Open Catamaran, which is incredibly safe, stable, and roomy, with really comfortable cabins and bathrooms. It was a completely different experience to a Monohull for all these positive reasons. I generally suffer with seasickness on Monohulls, but was fine on the Cat in a variety of conditions.

We are so very pleased we found Solent Sail and will most definitely be coming back for more adventures!

Very enjoyable and a learning sailing trip
My wife and I joined two other couples to sail with a catamaran ton Portsmouth to the Jersey islands. The skipper was very knowledgeable and experienced and a nice person who provided us with tips and tricks throughout the days and thanks to his good choices we were able to spend great time at anchor at Sark, Herm and Alderney and at the Marina in Guernsey. We had great time visiting the islands and also became friends with the skipper and the other couples. We appreciated the skipper’s hospitality and cooking (was nice of him) and also the way he maintained the boat. The catamaran was very well kept, clean and boy was it fast !
Overall very happy with the experience and would highly recommend it to novice as well as experienced sailors. Especially those who want to become more familiar with a catamaran (which is a rare find to be chartered in the UK). Five stars overall

I went on a 3 day labour day weekend trip. We ended up doing Gosport Worbarrow Bay - Poole - Gosport.

Martin Thomas is an owner-operator and it shows in the quality of the boat. Inxsa basically has everything you need for being off the grid, which means hot showers at anchor! Allows allows you to learn about systems like water maker, Victron Cerbo GX, etc for those interested in bluewater stuff.

Inxsq is a Nautitech Open 40 and I was impressed by its performance. We beam reached at 10 knots in 13-15 knots of true wind on the way to Worbarrow Bay. On the way back to Gosport, we even ended up close reaching with the spinnaker up to round Cowes! Very fun times.

The food onboard was also great and I appreciated the marina handling lessons at the end as I am chartering a catamaran in Greece next week.

Tldr: If you are looking for fun sailing trip and do it in speed and comfort, and not some super basic sail school monohull, go with Solent Sail!

Absolutely couldn't have gone better. Our expectations were exceeded completely. Martin let us have a go driving the boat, and also let us have a go with his watersports kit!

I chartered Inxsa for the weekend to take a team of colleagues out. I'd sailed with Martin a couple of years ago so knew him to be very welcoming and the boat to be very accommodating. This was perfect as we had quite a large group, all with varying degrees of confidence in being on the water. Everyone commented how much they'd enjoyed the trip and how Martin had made them feel confident to get involved in a bit of sailing.
Although it has been two years since I'd last been aboard Inxsa, I've still not found a nicer boat to charter in the Solent. Highly recommended.

This was my third sailing trip with Martin on his beautiful, spacious and very comfortable catamaran. I again had a fantastic time. Martin is an excellent skipper ... calm, helpful, sociable and always friendly. All crew is encouraged to help out and helm the boat. I will be back for more trips

Anne and I plus our twin girls (14yrs) boarded Inxsa Friday evening and met skipper Martin. We couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome. Another couple on board for the trip were lovely and the sheer spaciousness of the boat was awesome.

After a safety briefing we departed Haslar marina and, in the absence of wind motored to Cowes to fuel up. Having left Cowes the wind made Swanage for our overnight anchorage. A swim off the boat followed by dinner on board.

The sail from here to Weymouth was awesome with decent winds for the a good portion of this leg.

I can’t recommend the boat and Martin highly enough. He was an excellent teacher for us newbies to sailing and provided as much or as little input from us as we wanted.

POSITIVES
Fantastic boat
Excellent skipper
Friendly and great teacher
Plenty of food and drink
Well equipped boat with top notch equipment
Totally excellent value for money.

NEGATIVES
None

Thank you
