You get to go inside a sub (on land)
This was the first stop on the second day at the Historic Dockyard with my autistic son. We went over on the waterbus to Gosport, which is included in the Ultimate explorer ticket. It was interesting to see the history behind subs in general and a treat to go into one. When you do go inside there are members of staff that have knowledge to share about life in the subs and the delights of emptying the poo tanks. There was quite a bit to see and various interactive bits that my son could engage with.
Ibrahim G, we strive for 100% satisfaction, and it is great to see you had such a positive experience at Submarine Museum. We're glad to hear we delivered such a great experience. If there's anything further we can do for you, we are happy to help! We hope to see you again soon. ^SF

Interesting and so much history to take in. A must-see.
A personal visit for me as my uncle served on HMS Alliance and was proud of his service. Well worth a visit to learn about the history of submarines and see so much. It's somewhere you really can't take in fully in one visit, so i must go back again soon. Loved the tour of HMS Alliance, and seeing where my uncle said he used to sleep (Forward torpedo bay). Really helped connect with my family history. This visit was long overdue. Thank you.
Hello Mark D, we appreciate you taking the time to leave us this feedback. We're so pleased you enjoyed your visit and we hope to welcome you back again in the near future. Take care! ^SF

    Fantastic Museum
What a great day out. The museum is immaculate and full of fantastic things to see, including a walk through a post WW11 submarine. There are many interactive exhibits and there is even a Polaris missile in the museum. Highly recommended

Tonights evenigshowing of the Film Above us the Waves.
Today is the 80th anniversary of Operation Source, involving RN midget submarines. It is a well-produced 1950s film. There were also tours of the relevant artifacts, including midget submarine X 24 on display some 20 feet from our seats, and HMS Alliance just outside on the jetty. Very atmospheric. Our two guides were very knowledgeable and all the staff were Cheerful, keen and helpful. A very pleasant evening.

    Awesome submarine museum
Awesome museum for everything to do with submarines. It was great to walk through an old diesel sub, plus they have an X-sub and a bit about HMS Dolphin. Staff friendly and helpful. It took about 2 hrs to get round everything, but if you stop to watch all the videos and have a coffee it will take a bit longer. Great visit.

    A real life Submarine!!!
What a great time! What more could a guy want on his 57th birthday! A great history of submariner life and the development of an awesome weapon of war. Some amazing displays and some personal items on show bringing into focus the not so glamorous areas of navel warfare. Once that is finished the best bit was to come, the tour around a real submarine!! The best way to experience this would be to go and investigate yourself as words would be difficult to try and explain and would not do it justice. There have on station veterans who walk you through anything you want to ask, my thanks for their service, BTW. Probably best to leave the kids at home, unless they have a genuine interest, as they could get board very quickly but they would enjoy it non the less, especially going into the sub itself. Well worth the visit and the time and a thank you to the partner for organising - hit that nail squarely on the head for me!

    Great exhibit!
We really enjoy visiting the submarine museum today. Great display of information about the Royal Navy Submarines. My son enjoyed all the interactive stuff there too. I really liked very much all the information about HMS Conqueror specially during the Falkland War. Also the HMS Holland 1 was very impressive.
Hello! We appreciate your positive review about your recent experience with us! Thanks again for the recommendation, and have an amazing day! ^NH

Brilliant, great staff - get the free tour!
We visited this as part of our ultimate ticket. 3 boys, 10, 8, 4 and a newborn in a sling. Definately worth getting the guided tour as tells you so much more. We had Mark guide us around and very engaging with the adults and kids and really made the experience. Great insight into what submariners experience and have to go through and need to allow about 2hrs to cover the museum exits as well.

This was our 3rd visit during the last 10 years or so. It is a good, interesting museum. But at these prices we will not be returning. In 2018 it was £18 per adult and not long before that £15. Fine. That was just to visit the submarine museum, and that is maybe the problem. There is no ticket that you can by for just visiting the Submarine Musem, the offerings are all combined with other attractions, so if you do want to visit just the Submarine Museum, as we did, the current cheapest ticket option is £36 per adult..... for an attraction that takes not much more than an hour to see. We were with friends from overseas and had promised to take them here so it would have been awkward to turn back at the gate so it cost us £144 for the four of us to to carry out our one and a half hour visit. I actually felt robbed as we walked away as we could have done some much more for that money.
So please, sort this out as it is a truly facinating experience to visit the submarine.

This is a really interesting museum, but the tickets are a complete rip-off. For a day pass 1 adult 1 child - £62 ! This is absolutely extortionate, and prohibitive to most families . Especially given that the tax payer paid for all this kit in the first place !

I felt it was quite expensive for what was on show. It was an hour and a quarter at best of wandering round and doing the conducted tour.
The tour guide ( Bob) obviously very experienced and had in depth knowledge, no pun intended but I just could not hear him on the group walk. Sorry Bob. He tended to talk/whisper to those in the immediate vicinity rather than the complete group so it became rather tedious. As he was a volunteer it was a harsh criticism but the entry fee deserved better. Hearing loops as in most theatres these days might help.

Hi there, We're disappointed to hear of the negative experience you had at our location. Whilst visiting our Submarine Museum not only can you visit the HMS Alliance, you are welcome to explore the galleries and visit the HMS Holland the Royal Navy's first submarine. This means our visitors have access to three areas of the site and are welcome to go about this in their own time. We are sorry to hear of your disappointment in the visit to our museum, if there's anything else you would like to discuss please contact us at reviews@nmrn.org.uk. ^NH

The tour of the submarine was good. The Guide who’d worked on a submarine made it very interesting. Was set up to show what it was like in 1940s.

Looked to go just here during half-term with 2 kids and 2 seniors but the cost of entry at £114 for an hour or two was ridiculous! Had a day out in London by train for half the price.

The tour around HMS Alliance (WW2) submarine was super interesting. We were guided by a submariner of 30 year’s experience and he really brought it alive for us and was willing to answer all our many questions. We got so much more out of the tour than we would have if we had viewed the submarine ourselves.

Thoroughly enjoyed the experience on HMS Alliance with an ex submariner as our guide. Who provided us with entertaining stories of the past and thoughts of those who protect us.
