Dive museum Gosport. Just had a fantastic day at this museum absolutely brilliant. The museum is run by x navy and commercial divers. They were knowledgeable and went ot of thier way to talk about the exhibits and make sure everyone had a good experience.
This museum is well worth the small entrance fee if only to talk to the men who did such spectacular things in the flesh.

Small but interesting museum run by a team of extremely knowledgeable and helpful volunteers. Great treasure hunt for small children with a prize.

Excellent local run museum on the history of diving and its equipment and personalities.
The museum is mainly run by volunteers and I take my hat off to them! The main man Kevin (Casey) knows (most) all there is to know about diving. He was welcoming and helpful and we had a good chat.
The museum is currently* set out into three parts, (all explained on your arrival when you pay.) One end is commercial diving, the middle section is Navy and other historical diving figures and the end chamber is leisure diving. All well laid out and informative boards.
The Navy section (as with the others,) was very detailed, including the infamous ‘Buster Crabbe.’ (And his compatriots.) I was blown away that there is on public display the passport of Crabbe, and original medals of his and others that were WW2 heroes.
For me this was a trip down memory lane as I grew up with some local diving ‘personalities’ and it made me happy to see them memorialised in some of the exhibits.
Outside (and no entry fee required,) around the battery where the museum is located, there are various larger exhibits; underwater chariots, diving suits and deep diving chambers.
(There is a very good café next door, public loos and a good value car park.)
Once you have had your fill of history, coffee and cake, sit on the seafront just yards in front and blow the cobwebs away with amazing views across The Solent to the Isle of Wight.

*I understand the museum will be closing in October 2023 for the winter? To carry out extensive refurbishments as a grant has been awarded to do the works. I am sure it will be even better than it currently is!

What an amazing museum. Visited on a rather wet weekend during the summer holidays. The staff were extremely welcoming particularly to the children, setting them up with a treasure hunt which allowed the grown ups to wonder round the exhibits and actually get a chance to read the accompanying information! One of the staff actually had been a commercial diver and was extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer questions, we all felt we’d learnt something by the end of our visit. Loved the local crotchet club knitting away creating sea life creatures to sell in the shop, I couldn’t resist buying some before departing, one of the ladies also helped the kids make friendship bracelets too. All in all a wonderful museum with wonderful knowledgable staff, do pay them a visit!

My husband and I visited this lovely historical and well organised museum on 30/7/23.
It was well set out and crammed full of interesting exhibits, and staffed by extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff,.
Nothing was too much trouble and you could see how much they loved talking about the exhibits and expanding in the history surrounding them.
You were invited to try on diver's helmet and weighted boots, and there were activities available.
There was also lots of interesting things to hold children's attention.
I also understand that they have plans to expand the museum, which will enable them to be able to display more exhibits.
Dogs are also welcome.
Entry for us over 60's was £4 each, and a family ticket was very cheap too.
It certainly was value for money and kept us entertained for over 2 hours.
We plan to visit again

Whilst the museum is only small, it has a great amount of exhibits and history. The staff were amazing and had an amazing amount of knowledge.
It was a real eye opener as to how technology has moved on. Those old diving suits looked so claustrophobic.
Great location, excellent value.
